How do you tell if you have a real SS or Z28?

What is the diff from a Z28 with SS package and a real SS?

A real SS will have the RPO code "WU8" on the SPID sticker on the inside of the driver's door jamb (door side).

Are there really people trying to pass off fake SS's? It seems like I'd be cheaper just to buy one instead of a Z28 and then all the aftermarket stuff.
