Shifter help...

Shifter help... Already posted in the manual trans section but i figured it would get more views here and i need the help.
Ok, i picked up a Hurst shifter out of a SS and i'm looking to do the install myself. First off, i have basic mechanical abilities (I am capable of doing stuff, i did do my own cat-back and that came out great) do you guys think that this is something that i should attempt? How much is there that i could screw up?
Second, i don't have the 4 base bolts for the new shifter. Will the ones that are on the stock shifter work for the new one? If not, where can i get the right ones?
