please help me on this.. Okay I have a 2000 Z28 and it only has 57k miles on it, I was driving it today down the freeway when I noticed that the engine had this labored sound and there was a noticible power loss. The car was pretty hot since I had been driving it around for an hour or more but the gauge read that it was at a normal temp. I had heard that the LS1 engine eats up oil and that it has to be checked frequently so it made me paranoid, I checked the oil and noticed smoke coming from the dipstick hole. I also noticed a month ago that smoke was coming from my tailpipes after the car had been turned off. I don't remember the color of the smoke.
Should I be worried about this and what could possibly be the cause?

sounds like an LS1 alright, I have the same problem! Mine burns oil like a son of a bitch. The other day I had to replace some rubber hosing on the pvc system and noticed smoke coming out of the dipstick tube and the oil filler cap. I dont know what the hell is goin on, all I know is that LS1's are known to burn oil. I usually go through about 1 1/2 quarts every 2 weeks.

stick or auto? you may be having a tranny problem more than the ls1. a lot of motors smoke a little through the oil system. i have never known that to be a big deal. your oil system is lubricating and protecting a very hot engine. so ofcourse you are going to have some smoke inside the engine. just make sure it maintains oil level. with out hearing it and seeing it it is kind of hard to know what you got. you could have it checked out if it makes you feel better.
