Default LS1 Engine Removal

I have heard comflicting opinions on this. Can an LS1 engine be removed through the hood, or does it have to be dropped. The tranny would not be removed in this job, it would stay as much attached as it can be. This is in a 1998 Z-28 by the way.

No , it needs to have the K-member unbolted and dropped through the bottom of the car.

Are Firebirds different because I pulled my motor through the top about 2 weeks ago. A little tweaking here and there, but it came out the top with a 2 1/2 ton cherry picker.

Shouldn't be, but everybody I know has always dropped it out through the bottom , the cowl is a real PIA.

That's good to hear... I'm thinking of dumping my '69 and buying a LS1 T/A but was partially discouraged because of how hard they are to work on.

lol... here we go again
I'll vote for out the bottom, I have done it several times and tried the top way too. There will be some people on here soon though that swear by the top. Whatever works for you. Out the bottom it is easier to let the tranny go with it though.
