4th Gen RS V8?
Was it possible to get the V8 in a 4th Gen without it being a Z, B4C or SS? Could you order a V8 in a RS? Were B4C cars only available to law enforcement?

BC4's were only available to law enforcement. Aparently quite a few agencies dont like parting with their F bodies either, I have seen at least one LT1 car still being used on patrol in NY. According to the options lists in the brocures the big engine is only available to the ss and the z cars.

I was offered a plain jane b4c without z decals, no power windows, powerlocks, simple radio, no carpet, automatic and no T-tops for less than 19,000 brand new when I was lookng for mine. I had to have all the options though so I past it up. Do I regret it? Hell no!

An actual 4th Gen RS pakcage was only offered in 1996, 1997, 2001, and 2002.
In 1996 & 1997, the only difference was RS had the Sport Appearance Package and RS badging. RS was its own separate model these years
In 2001 & 2002, RS got dual stripes, a bowtie grille, Z28-style exhuast, RS badging, and the package was done by SLP. RS was option RPO Y3B available on V6 Camaros only.
Starting in 1998, the new Sport Appearance Package was available on all models except SS.

I always wanted a 67 SS/RS and since they didnt offer a V-8 with any 4th gen RS camaros, I made my own. An original 97 RS camaro, suspension off of a 97 SS camaro, and LS6 engine. Some people dont like that I have SS emblems on here but I dont care. Thats what I am making her to be. Next is the hood, and chrome SS/RS emblems (so they match)! Heres a couple of pics of mine.
IMO they should of offered a 305 in the 4th gen RS model.

Basically if you have RS badging from the factory you can't have a V8 from the factory. I'm glad my 98 Z was optioned with the Sport package though, I always thought the V6 RS's looked better than the stock Z's from the factory so in my opinion I got the best of both worlds, but some don't like the ground effects and spoiler. I'm hoping the 5th Gens will have an RS Package with different styling and with a Supercharged V6 instead of the regular V6's we are sure to find in the base Camaro. It would be cool to give V6 owners more options, as long as it's not out performing the Z28 or SS model.
