From what I've read on this site, all hardtops started life as t-top cars but got a roof glued on instead of glass panels and the frames were still there. Or something to that affect.

Once at TTPerformance, I met someone at a dyno day that turned his hardtop into a t-top without having any prior experience doing work like that to cars. He said he's never had trouble with it leaking which means it's better than all the factory t-tops I've ever seen. So yes it can be done; whether or not you'd be willing to try it yourself is a different story. But I'm sure you could find a shop to do it.

Why for the love of god would you want to?

The hardtop cars are rare, t-top cars are everywhere.

I don't see why it couldn't be done. I have a hard-top SS, and when I'm in the car and look up at the roof, it has the outline of a T-top car. These cars were just made to be T-top cars.

all the braces and latches is there, all you need to do is remove all the metal that is not braces or latches, add weather stripping and removable roof panels and viola.
