What are the real diferences between the Z28 and SS beond the Hood Spoiler Badging ect. are there any real performance upgrades done to it or is it mostly a "style" package.

Bilsteins are an optional item on the SS, not standard. In addtion, there are a host of SLP options that could be added to an SS from SLP when the car was ordered that were not avaliable on a Z28. But in terms of a non-Y2Y (extra SLP optioned) SS:
The SS gets a larger front sway bar than Z28 (32mm vs 30mm).
The SS gets a slightly better flowing muffler with 2.5" tail pipes rather than 2.25" for the Z28.

ALL SS cars started life as a Z28. They were shipped to SLP who transformed the cars into SS's. The engine was was NOT touched in any way. An air lid and a different muffler were the only mods which had any effect on rear wheel horsepower. The stock Z28 engine horsepower rating of 305 was raised to as high as 345 for the SS but on the track it was proven countless times that they were no faster than stock Z28's which proves the exaggerated horsepower ratings of the SS were for marketing purposes only. SS owners are very touchy about this subject although I'm not sure why.

All things being equal a SS will be worth more than a Z28. However, with that being said, we are talking about used cars anywhere from four to eight years old. That means that condition and mileage become more important than SS or Z28. For instance, a mint, low mileage Z28 will be sell for more than a ratty, high mileage SS of the same year.

I'm not touchy. It's only the truth. The Z and SS are pretty equal in a straight line. The SS should corner slightly better.

just a little comment here....
Any chevy can be a SS, only one can be a Z28
no real difference besides appearance, slighty better suspension (most people upgrade with aftermarket anyways so that doesnt matter), little better flowing exhaust (also doesnt matter as people upgrade it aftermarket), ram air (which doesnt amount to much on any SS)
So for the price unless you can find a SS that has lower miles/in better condition then a Z28...the Z28 is the way to go.

if you plan on modifying the car i think it is best to get a z28 since there is no difference in power and they are usually quite a bit cheaper but if you plan on having a garage queen then i think an SS would be better just because they are a lil more valuable..also if you have a z28 and you like the look of the SS it is much cheaper to buy the hood and spoiler then it is to get a factory SS..thats what i did
