Ok...I dont know where this question should go. Sorry if wrong!
I dont know a lot or really anything when it comes to motors or anything. More of a body man.
I am thinking about purchasing a Camaro.
I dont know which Gen to get.
I like the Gen2(93 model right?) more than Gen3(last model correct?)
But I dont know what motor to look for.
I dont want to take it to the drag strip. Not much of a racer.
But I want something for just around town that shows *****.
My buddy got a 93 LT1 auto and I would like to get one that can kick his *** as well!
Please help me out guys!

Well your first error would be the spelling of Camaro, but I see that you already tried an edit, so nm on that fact.
It sounds like you are looking for a 4th gen, and more specifically the 98's - 02's (LS1 Engine).

'93-'97 marks the era of the early 4th gen, and the '98-'02 body styles were of the later 4th gen.
If you're not much for speed, then an LT1 will be satisfying enough and will haul it's fair share, especially given it's age. LT1s have had time to prove that they're very stout motors. If LT1s didn't have Optispark issues, I'd like one as a DD. That's pretty much my only gripe about 'em.
An LS1 will lay a whooping on an LT1, stock for stock or given equal mods. LS1s can now be had at the $8k+ range, for a ragged-on '98. If you want an LS1, plan on spending at LEAST $10k for a car in good shape, and +$16-17k if you plan on getting something collectible (IE: flawless, SS, WS6, low miles, etc).
Good luck.

Several companies make replacement systems that get rid of alot of the problems with the opti, and normally they'll last till about 100k miles, so its not the end of the world.
Oh yeah...
93-97 Camaro- LT1
98-02 Camaro- LS1
They're both "4th gen" cars, but they are radically different due to the engine and exterior styling.

$500, and its probably not a job for someone who's never turned a wrench.
But like I said, opti-sparks do take awhile to burn out, so you may never need to replace yours.
(and just for clarification opti-spark only came on the LT1 engine)

I think just about everyone on here changes there oil on time, air filters and does not let things get bad on their car like normal drivers would. Alot of my friends will go 15k before they change there oil.
