Default optispark

Guys i need some help (again) , what is an optispark?they told me i need to change it as my water pump was leaking on the distributor is the optispark the Distributor and do i need to change it fully or the cap only or what exactly i need to change,,,,and does it make sense to change the water pump and wait for 2-3 days maybe the water will dry and it will be ok,,,,or i should change it anyway
sorry for the trouble but i realy need help the performace of the car is so bad (camaro 96 V8)

the optispark is the thing that keeps the car in time. its really a high tech device that was ahead of its time, but like with all gm stuff, its not the most reliable. if you've never replaced it then go ahead and replace the whole thing. i know on the C4 vettes, i think they had a recall on them but im not sure of it. go ahead and replace it, it wont hurt anything if you do

Opti is the distributor and if it got wet from the water pump , it is a ticking time bomb waiting to leave you stranded . MSD and Accel both make replacements you might want to consider.
