I just got my letter in the mail today.
Its not really a recall, they are just extending the warranty on the catalytic converters to 120,000 miles or 10 years whichever comes first. And if you do have a problem with the cats it will be repaired for you at no charge.

I got my letter two days ago for my 02. I have had my pass side cat replaced twice and I'm thinking I hear the same noise again. I only have 53k on the car but I was talking to a woman at the dealer and she said he vette had like 10k on it and had both cats replaced already. I was talking to my work's shop and they told me but federal law they have to cover emissions and emissions control devices for at least 6/100k

What symptoms does a dying cat give. I know it gives the paint can rattle, and codes. I think my driverside is going out but cant till, My 99 also feels really sluggish sometimes..like it just doesnt want to go. Could it be clogged cats?

Typically it throws a code, Cat efficiency below threshold

Mine was
DTC P0420 Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 1

Talking Letter from Chevrolet for 2000 Camaro

I received the letter. SES has been on and off for over a year on my 2000 Z28. Replaced O2's. The Code was/is P0430. Catalyst efficiency low-bank 2
The oxygen sensors monitor the Catalytic Converters ability to store oxygen.
Probable Cause
1. Catalytic Converter defective ( Failure possibly due to # 2,3, or 4)
2. Engine misfire or running condition
3. large vacuum leak
4. Engine oil leakage into exhaust-valve guide seals, piston rings

Sometimes the SES would go out on its own, and stayed off for a couple hundred miles. Then it would come back on. Managed to pass smog during one of the off times. The dealership is going to replace it at no charge.

I got it as well, my car is a 2001. My problem, is the ******* rear driver' s side O2 sensor is being gay. It' s been throwing a code for like 4 years now, It started when I still had cats on the car, and still continues, even tried two different simulators, but it STILL throws a code. I' m sick and tired of seeing that damned SES light!!

Hi guys.

I was wondering if they replaced the whole pipe or welded new ones in. I am concered about how long this visit would take because a 2 day quote at my local dealership turns into a two week campout.

Both of my CATS are throwing codes. They aren't clogged though. I think they are bypassing the seals and going around the bricks in the CATS. So, I am not seeing a flow problem just a code. Therefore, having the car in the shop for too long is just plain annoying!!!!!

I went to the dealership to see what they had to say about a tick, and they said that the only thing they had for our cars in the form of a recall was the 120,000 miles cat thing... He said if it was a cat he would replace it so I am guessing you don't need the letter.
