Default 1LE 3rd gen?

ok, so on base where i work, i always see this young kid driving around a beat *** red third gen same color as my IROC i used to have. Its front fender is beat, shitty aftermarket wheels, and a chokemaster that puffs blue smoke when he starts it. The thing that gets me wonderng though, is it has Z28 badges, no IROC badges, has no fog lights and is a manual. 1LE camaros in the 80s and early 90s were basically stripper model Z28 that had no ac and were pretty much the factory race versions right? I need to talk to him, but i have a feeling he would just look at me like a deer in the headlights!

unless it has radio delete plates I would doubt that it was a 1LE car. They made z28s that looked like irocs.

well all i ment by it looking like my car, is that it was the same red as mine and by looking at the body it was probably around the same year. Mine was an 86. Is thier an RPO code for 1LE, or did i just answer my own question? My car had fog fog lights and i also know manuals arent that common in third gens. I looked inside it and it has an aftermarkeet CD player.

yes 1LEs did have an RPO code in the center console. Also as you can see from the pics above they were all hard tops with deletes for the radio, a/c, and fog lights. I hope that helps.

It looks asthough the 1LE package was only from 89 to 92. (according to the third edition of the camaro buyers guide)

Mint thirdgen BTW.

I think you could have the radio on an 1LE car.

those are some cool pics of the delete plates the heater only controls the auto shifter ! 350 car? i saw 90-92 RS without ac but i dont recall the heater controls looking like that but they were yellow it was a 305 tbi defenetly not 1LE i have an 84 without ac and it dose not have vents on the ends of the dash.it has block offs like the vents were not cut out it also has fresh air vent controls under the steering wheel. do the 90-92 cars without air have the ventless dashes or the fresh air controls under the seering wheel? i heared or read somewhere that 1LEs came out in 86 and there were a few 350 5speed cars like a hand full. i dont think you could order a 1LE package i believe it was automaticly added when you ordered the G92 axle on a car without ac.my 91 dosnt have rear defrost so it also has that blank under the cig lighter that cant be easy to come by.the RPO tag can be under the console lid , under the lid for the storage compartment on the driver side in the rear of the car ,or maybe in the door.

According to both an article written on an '89 1LE in Hot Rod magazine (with photos), as well as the Camaro White Book, the 1LE option didn't automatically mean radio delete. That was a separate option under UL5, and as an example they only show 43 cars with the radio delete option and 111 1LE cars built that year. Just as FYI.

Also when the car had the b4c option, 1le was included. I have came across 3 b4c's , all of them previously used by the fbi and all had low mileage, they were made to look like an average of the norm RS, but were a wolf in sheep's clothing with the l98, 1le, etc. Oh and alll of them had radios, heaters, ac, power everything aside from seats.
They even installed cages in them but cut them out prior to re-sale

That 1LE is sweet. In the pictures it looks so good that it seems like a photoshop.

I don't particularly care for red cars, but that thing is beautiful. It's a shame that 3rd gens have a bad rep in some people eyes. I thought they were some of the best looking cars during that time, especially compared to Mustangs and Japanese "sporty" cars.
