Default Vin number ?????

What number/letter designates which trans (Auto/Manual) the car has in it??????????? Thanks in advance...

trans is not identified in the VIN, only the engine...
1st digit = country of origin
2nd digit = manufacturer
3rd digit = make
4th digit = model
5th digit = specific model
8th digit = engine
10th digit= year

You have to have the entire # & GM's system to I.D if it is a A4 or M-6 car.
There is always the door codes though

you could use the VIN to determine the rear gear... I forget the codes but i know they denote what the car originally came with ... so if it's 3.42 it's an M6 else it's an A4
