1st digit = country of origin
2nd digit = manufacturer
3rd digit = make
4th digit = model
5th digit = specific model
8th digit = engine
10th digit= year

Re: Vin number ????? you could use the VIN to determine the rear gear... I forget the codes but i know they denote what the car originally came with ... so if it's 3.42 it's an M6 else it's an A4
