well... i dunno for sure but my guess would be that Z28 was an RPO code and it just stuck? Kinda like WS6 ?

Z/28 was originally an RPO code for the Camaros with a 327 engine in it, if I remember correctly.

Z28 was an RPO code started in 1967, and included the 302ci engine. This engine was developed to compete in the Trans Am series, which limited the displacement to less than 305ci.

The 327ci Camaros were the base model V8 cars, later replaced by a weaker 307ci in mid-1969.

DOH!

DAMN IT! Thats what I meant (believe it or not). Was thinking 302 and typed 327.

I watched an interesting show on the old Trans Am Series on tv not too long ago.

WS6 sounds just about as catchy as WU8 does to me, though.

Don't forget the W-30 and W-31.

Back when I had a girlfriend with a '98 Z/28 she had some of the dumbest friends. When she told them she bought a new Camaro Z/28 they asked which one she bought. She said, "A Camaro Z/28". Then they said, "Well, which one? A Camaro or a Z/28?" What idiots. I guess if you own an SS or Z/28 then you don't own a Camaro. LOL

just letting ya know that is not always true.

for the camaro's 67-68 the SS refered to several diffrent engine choices, in 69-72 the SS became RPO Z27 it was dropped in '73

sorry been reading up on 1st and 2nd gen camaros
