1967 Camaro with Carb'd 5.3L LM7 + T56
This is going to be my build log for my conversion. I'm putting a 5.3L LM7 from a '05 Suburban and a T56 from a '05 GTO in my '67 Camaro. The car was mostly original with a 250 ci inline-6 and a 3-speed saginaw when I inherited it about 2 years ago. I've already added a full Hotchkis suspension, front disc brake conversion, and I rebuilt the stock 10 bolt with a posi and 3.73s. Its best in its current set up is 17.7 @ 77mph, hoping to improve on that a bit The 5.3L will have a carburetor and LS6 cam and springs. The plan is to have the car ready to take to the Las Vegas Invasion in September.
As far as the swap goes, I have most of the major parts already and I took it to my friend's shop last week. We should be pulling the engine and trans towards the end of this week. I'll keep this thread updated with progress pics. Any questions, just ask!
The car
The progression of the motor
Edelbrock swap plates with Energy Suspension mounts
F-body water pump and alternator, no power steering or air conditioning
T56
Bellhousing and half of my collection of exhaust manifolds (I have early and late F-body, GTO, Corvette, and truck, going to see what I can get to fit)
Pulled up the carpet to get to the trans tunnel
Hopefully with the next installment of pictures, I'll have an empty engine bay .

Love seeing a rustfree first gen. Wish my 67 had been rustfree. It would have been on the road long time ago if it had been. I was going to go LS1 with auto, but a fully forged all new LT1 nearly fell in my lap, free, so I couldn`t pass that up. Look forward to seeing more of your build. I agree with the last post, go with a bigger cam. You`ll be glad you did.

It's not. I'm just pretty sure it was jacked in the middle at some point in its life.
As far as a bigger cam, I'm trying to do this somewhat on the cheap, and I got a great deal on the LS6 cam and springs. In a couple years, I'll probably stick a real cam in it.

So we pulled the engine and transmission yesterday. Pulled the trans first and then the engine and bellhousing separately. Came out fairly easily. I also powerwashed the underside of the car, and finished getting the 5.3 ready to drop in. Here are the pics.
Transmission is out, getting ready to pull the engine
So much room
The old
Both engines together
The modified F-body oil pan. A 1/4" thick piece of aluminum was bent 90* and then welded in place.
The modified pick up tube, I had to extend both the tube and the mounting tab
Far cleaner than it was before
Just a little surface rust
Hoping to drop the new engine in on Monday or Tuesday, updates when it happens...
