427 LSx TT Terminator...
Anyone know if it is possible to find an 03/04 Cobra roller? Or if not how much the motor/trans combo can be sold for?
Just sold my 416 CI GTO and looking to start a long term project (3 years) while I am in Germany. Idea is to buy an 03/04 Cobra roller and put in a 427 LSx with low compression for a custom TT setup (want to mate it to a built auto trans so a nice stall can be put in...plus we all know that auto is the way to go for the strip). Goal is a low 9 high 8 street strip car with full interior that you can take out for a weekend cruise.
I just thought it was a cool idea since I really like the looks of the 03/04 Cobra along with the IRS but love the quality of the GM motors. Obviously some things will need beefed up on the IRS to support the power and run the times I want.
I'm going to keep this thread going for questions I will have over the time I will be buying the parts.

It would be MUCH cheaper just to get a GT and turn it into a cobra clone... if you really wanted the cobra looks. Finding a decent condition rolling termi is going to run you into debt :o
EDIT: Motor and trans out of a well taken care of termi, will probably sell for...at least 5k.

I don't understand why you don't just go crazy with the 4v. Bad *** motor, and it would get you all the power you ever wanted, and would be cheaper in the long run. Thats just my opinion, not trying to be a dick.
Regardless, it would be a bad *** project, and would be different. I would be interested to see how it turns out.

Get a v6 car. Would be a hell of a lot cheaper. You also wouldn't be getting rid of a good motor for one that is just as good. I'm doing the swap on a 92 4 cylc. I would never dream of doing it to 93 cobra let alone a 03/04. Just doesn't seem smart.

he wants IRS...
a GT would be much easier and just throw on a hood/front rear bumper..
but if you have the money.. you might think about a salvaged cobra... i have a buddy that sold a SUPER clean salvage car a while back for like 12k... could buy it and part what you didnt want.. would end up being about 6-7k probably...
but who knows?

Youre hoping to run 8s on a basically stock IRS? Good luck. I also don't mean to sound like a dick but almost all terminators running 10s have swaped in a solid rear axle due to the weak IRS letting go. You put some sticky tires on that car, kiss that rear goodbye. Pun is intended (: I agree with the others. Get a v6 car and some fiberglass fenders/moldings. You will have to modify the kmember and underside regardless if it was a sixer or true v8 car so why not save ten grand? Based on your motor choice, I'm gonna assume that you are inherently rich to be able to afford that setup so do as you please. I only ask that you post pics. Lots and lots of pics.

I ran low 10's on an upgraded IRS (billet stubs/cv shafts only) with my GTO and there are a few running 9's on beefed up IRS with the GTO. I imagine with some good billet parts you could get a Cobra in the 9's easily.
IRS isn't ideal but I don't like my rear hopping around if I take a corner that isn't perfectly smooth.
