Default E36 LS2 - I am Swapping my Swap

That's right - time for a new BMW. I wanted something a little more low key and I've always wanted a 4 door. I also really don't like to own black cars.

I found a very clean 92 and it is getting ALL of the mechanical part from my M3. Should be fun

I accept donations

Actually I am happy with the displacement and the L92 heads. After the trouble that I have had with ported heads I am not in a rush to use them again.

I agree, I'm sure you could get more for a running, LS powered BMW than a rolling chassis not setup for the original motor.

I’m with Rao on this. I’ve owned a Black Infiniti Q45 and now a Black ’97 BMW M-3 four door that is receiving an LSx.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...onversion.html

I would not hesitate if a clean white or silver E-36 4 door with decent interior presented itself, then swap all of my M3 specific goodies as well as the LSx over to the lighter colored car…

Samberg is releasing an LSx mounting setup for the E36 series cars. Are you planning on running his version? I will be out before the end of the year I'm sure in full production swing.

How'd I miss that??? Samberg stuff suddenly makes my swap idea seem more appealing.

Rob, looks good. I'm also of the opinion I will never buy another black car. Just too much effort for my OCD self to keep clean enough.

Started 10/23/09 and drove it around the block 12/14/09

I still have a few bugs to work out, but nothing too serious.

Here are the pics:

Did you swap in an M3 rear diff? Does it require M3 axles as well if you did?

I see you have the Subaru for winter duty in the driveway

I swapped every mechanical part from the 2 door - including the entire rear suspension and differential, axles, wheels, lug nuts, etc.

Do you know the part number for your air filter off hand? I looked through all of the K&N boxes at the local store and didn't find one w/ an opening as big as the maf/tb of the ls1.

whoa, rao, this is such a cool swap, ALL of the M3 bits onto the lowkey DD 3series sedan is just an awesome idea! Add to that using your LS2 swap and what a hoot to drive, how is it and do you want anything to be different about it?

what did you do with your M3?

love the sedan, awesome work on it.

Thanks.

It really drives just like the M3, but I do like the 4 door a lot. There are always things that could be improved, and I am always thinking up other projects, but for now this car is a blast

The M3 chassis and the various 325i parts that I didn't need are for sale (some of the stuff has sold).
