Default Sally is a Dirty GIRL LS1/99 f-150

Hey guys...before the flaming starts...i just want you to know i am excited about doing this conversion. and i fully understand that putting an ls1 in a 99 f-150 is sorta sack-religious..with that being said... I DONT CARE...and i came here for help!
SO FLAME AWAY! i love my truck and i hope this motor is as amazing as everyone says it is...

So i am a newbie to the ls1, but i have done some conversions such as a 3.8 GN motor in a toyota and a couple others.

So i have a 99 ford f150 extra cab Long travel pre-runner and her name is Sally!
It started off looking like this...

then i bought some suspension for it..

took the bed off and did some other mods..

and now this is what it looks like..

and last but not least...the new motor that is going to go into it!

this build is solely for offroading/prerunning. I like simple and yet effective vehicles. There will be no turbo/blower setup on this motor.
i want a naturally assperated 400hp motor or so...to put in my truck. I heard the LS1 is a great starter.
So things i was hoping to get help with...
simplest way to get to 400hp and what tranny i should use..and any other help i need along the way would be greatly appreciated!

That's going to be a fun setup for sure. Getting 400hp should be easily done with a cam swap. Good luck on your build.

As long as it's a value to you. Just don't sell it.

I would do bolt-ons and a cam swap with a good *** dyno tune and you have 400 easy. Maybe look into a 4l80e since it looks like your going to be beatin on it pretty good.
BTW sick project.

You do know you're on an LS1 forum, right? There's no one here that's going to flame you for putting an LS1 in anything!

And I don't think you'll be dissapointed with it. Cool project, keep us updated.

thanks guys! I havent had anytime to even look at this motor since last week.
I have been doing some research thats it.

What cam would you suggest for what i am trying to do...sand/dezert is very high rpm...i would like this motor to be bullet proof before put alot of effort into getting high HP output.

do you have suggestions on who i should go with for a standalone wiring harness...
i plan on running both of mine...and the LS1 so i can keep stock windows and so forth going.

LS motors are showing up in a lot of sand rails and buggys. You might check with them to see what mods they are doing for power and survival. If sustained high RPM is the plan, you should change the rod bolts. I would pick a couple of the LS1Tech sponsor cam companies and tell them how you will drive it, vehicle weight etc and let them recommend a cam. Other mod suggestions I'll leave to the more experienced.

Pre-Runners are cool, love seeing street versions of them since most people just do 4x4's

custom cam is the way to go. and a turbo 400 trans should hold up. ever think about going with a carb instead of fuel injection?? might be easier.

Don't lie to the man like that!!! You know how I hate people putting Chevy engines in Ford cars!!!! J/K For my true feelings see my sig...
That looks like awesome fun.

If he has all the FI stuff it will be cheaper than swapping to a carb - and FI isn't that hard with a little patience and skill. Getting to where he is means he has the skill so I don't see the problem. Use the factory fuel pump and lines, make the necessary mods to the harness and fuel lines then roll out! It almost doesn't get any bloody easier! All the "hard" stuff will be headers and getting the engine mounted.

IF he is missing the harness, PCM and sensors it may be cheaper to go carb unless you can score some deals.

Good luck on the build!
