I may have to give the new Spectre tank a try. Thanks for the updates.
To save on the headache, what walbro pump (GSS341 or 342) fits the best and what sock to use?
Also, did they correct the sender or is it still off? I heard they were like 0-114 ohms vs. 0-90 ohms?

Where is the baffle located? I put one in mine on the drvers side of the well and drilled two more holes in mine and it still died on right hand corners.... I wonder if its the pump or the well! i put a buick gran national tank in mine with a walbro pump and problem solved....... I did notice the GN tank had a baffle running thru the rear of the tank to help the gas from sloshing from side to side, thought maybe thats what the Spectre tank needed.....

Walbro Install in Sept/2011 Tank Since my spectra pump quit working, I decided to replace the tank with the new tank under warantee. I was just inside a year. It would have been easier to just replace the pump instead of shipping the old tank back, but since the new tank has the additional baffle I went with that.
There is no Walbro pump to replace the pump in the spectra. I ordered a GSS342 for $100 from ebay and it was a replacement for a different factory pump. When I got it, I found out the electircal connector from the spectra does not plug into the Walbro and the filter sock does not come off the spectra pump and fit onto the Walbro. I called Walbro and found the part numbers for the connector and pig tail along with a sock that fits directly onto the pump. They are:
125-147 and 94-615
I forgot which is which. I ordered them from V.E. Petersen Co. who is the largest distributer of Walbro pumps and parts. I would recommend ordering everything from them.
The next problem came when I tried to install the sock filter onto the bottom of the pump. The pump does not seat properly into rubber mount at the bottom. There is not enough room for the filter to mount onto the pump if the pump siits on the factory rubber mount.
So I removed the rubber mount and hogged out the metal bracket into the shape of a circle with a die grinder. Then I installed a rubber grommet I picked up at ace hardware and dropped in the pump.
I used a little loctite plastic glue to secure the press on filter. It is supposed to be gasoline resistant but I'm not sure how the rubber grommet will hold up with the high ethanal content fuel.
Finally the way this is set up, it will not fit into the tank because the filter sock is a little thicker and the pump sits a little lower. I hammered the bottom of the bowl for the little extra clearance required.

There may be a better style sock, but it will probably have the same issues because the walbro does not sit in the rubber mount properly and is too high up for the sock to fit on. Lots of folks have had issues with the spectra pumps and in my case I was probably over the capacity it could handle. I can actually hear the new Walbro pump work, without the engine running whereas I could never hear the old pump run. It is still quiet, though.

Hey flywheel glad that GN tank worked out I was wondering if you were going to try that! Should have only needed a filler neck mod to get it to fit right? I saw your other post where you said you had the 66 Chevelle. What's it look like for getting the GN tank into an earlier A-body? Seems to me like it would be too deep? And I'm not sure how the straps would work out?

Yea I did have to mod the filler neck, it's the onlly draw back of the GN tank, its a little slow filling the tank....Plans are taking the old spectre tank and cutting and putting in some more baffles for the gas sloshing....
I do have a 2 dr post 66 w/ 454 5sp in it now (drive train is for sale) as far as the tank, Im not sure, been a while since Iv been under it. Not sure how it compares to the 71s. The 71 with the GN tank DOES hang a little low below the rear valence. I'd have to check it out n get back to ya.......

i am still a little pissed after buying this tank. the fuel sender is not a standard unit. i can deal with that by buying a programable guage. still pissed. when my car quit running and i put on the trailer to the gas station. i put 7.8 gallons to fill and it starts up... it is a 15 or 16 gallon tank for a 67 camaro? i am currently somewhat content keeping the tank full and enjoying my car. Is there a spectre rep on here??? My car wins car shows but it is embarassing when it runs out of gas with 1/2 tank. My tank is about 2 years old but didnt get a drop of gas until 8 months ago. I can take a picture of my Autometer speedo with less than 400 miles on it. I spent a lot of my good money on this tank. Can I get someone to deal with this??? Does anybody have some contact info to deal with this issue? I dont want to bash a vendor but I do need to get a problem resolved.

I guess I can join this list too. I have a 69 camaro with the Spectre tank. I never got my fuel gauge to work and after reading through this post i am beginning to under stand why. I took the car down in December '10 for restoration/paint and just got it back together. My pump died. I won’t blame Spectre... i will assume Stabil doesn't work unless you circulate it through the system. I replaced the pump with a Carter from Nappa. It fit perfectly! Now i am stripping the sending unit off and adapting a Classic Instruments 0-90 sender. Starvation is still an issue and i already know not to run below 1/4 and try hard turns and acceleration.
