84 Corvette 5.3 build
Well I got my 5.3 home and unloaded today. Going to start cleaning it up and getting it ready to swap into my 84 corvette. the plans are to throw a cam in it before it goes in and swap the intake for an ls1 or ls6 unit and buy a set of the melrose headers for it. I've been reading up a lot on the swap and it seems like it won't be too bad. I've decided I am going to stick with the 700r4 trans for now. I'm building it slowly as the funds come in but I plan on posting pictures and keeping this updated with as much info as I can. Here's a few pics to get it started .

Good luck with the build. One of our guys did an 89 vette with an LS1, really woke the car up. Check it out here.

I just bought a gold 85 without a motor and a fresh tranny and converter. It has full interior and a 6 point cage. It previously ran 10's in the pacific street car association. I am doing a 5.3 with a turbo. Hopefully I can get it into the 10's.

Any LSX 2 wheel drive truck, should be pretty easy to find. You can not beat being able to tune the tranny, shift points, firmness, lock up....etc.
I found a 5.3 with the tranny out of a 2WD 2002 chevy this morning on craigslist, fot 1K. I just wish i had something to put it in. I have a 2007 Tahoe with the 5.3 in it and it moves really ggod for a big SUV, you cant beat them.
Nice swap, looking forward to seeing how it goes.

I cleaned the engine up some and bought an intake today. It's all just gathering up parts now, gonna order an oil pan tomorrow and decide which cam to go with prolly within a week here.
I am def. interested in a 4l60e tranny but I will probably wait til I get one in at work because I can get a much better deal then . prob is 4l60's sell like hot cakes so they aren't really all that cheap. But my boss will cut me a very good deal if we get one in out of a 2wd.
Everything I have seen about these engines I love. I own a 2000 silverado, my dad has an 05 silverado. I've seen ls engines with 170k on them taken apart and there is still the cross hatching on the cylinder walls. They are def. stout! I'm coming over from the mustang world from a 2v 4.6 which took a blower to make 400whp.......but it was still a very nice and fun car, it was just time to move on, I took this car in on trade plus quite a bit of cash for my mustang, I was planning on selling it but I always loved corvettes, this one handles great and I love doing projects and building cars. So within the next few weeks things should start coming together.

That car is awesome. Looks like it is in great shape. I would lower it about 2 inches and keep the stock wheels with a drag radial on the rear. That could be real sleeper. Most people know that the cross fire cars were turds.

it actually is in great shape, esp for 132k on it. My friends dad owned it and then my friend owned it after him before he traded it to me and I know it was taken care of. I will probably keep the stock wheels and roll on those on the street, but i would also like to get some wider c5 wheels as well as c5 brakes and take it to the road course. The gold paint also aids in the sleeper dept. too I think lol. And yes as it is....it is a turd...has lots of torque and pull til bout 3500 but then she's out of breath

well I finally had some free time tonight to get this engine tore down a lil and put a real quick clean job on it...... here are some pics for your viewing pleasure
got her on the engine stand
You never know how an engine is treated before you get it but for 150k the heads seemed very clean IMO
Little before and after a quick clean (didn't spend much time on cleaning the heads because they are aren't going to be used anyhow)
Hard to see with my crappy phone cam pics but the cylinders all still have the cross hatching in them and look great for the 150k its supposed to have
and now it looks more like an engine thats getting a little build time

if anyone here has one or has done one of these. which accessories/brackets need to be used. I don't see a clear cut answer anywhere. I'm sure I can use a truck alt....but it seems like I will need the corvette bracket for that side? what about the power steering pump? does that have to be one from a corvette or f-body? not too worried about the lines. i can find some and bend/fabricate in order to make whatever work. Also do I need to get an fbody water pump? I'm guessing the 2 smaller hoses on this pump and stock ls1 ones are for heater hoses? I will probably remove all the heating/ac components to save a little weight since I will only be driving it in nice weather with the top off so maybe I should go aftermarket with only radiator hose outlets? I just wanna keep an eye out for good deals on gathering these parts up so I need to know what to get.
