Default C3 corvette LM7 TR6060 budget build

Starting a build on my old C3. 1974 with 350 and M21 4 speed. Have acquired a 2002 5.3 and a 2010 TR6060 six speed. I plan to do 95% of the work myself and will update nearly everything on the car.
The 5.3 is in good shape and needs little work for now. It was $500.00 with ECM and harness. I am stated on the harness mods.

The TR6060 was super low miles, came with all sensors, slave, ect. but had a broken main-shaft. This was a common problem (bad batch of shafts) they just replaced under warranty.

The good news is, I picked it up for $200.00 and it came with a new main-shaft!
With a little help from this forum the trans is back together. THANKS to the_merv for his gear puller mod.

While I am on the trans, it didn't come with a shifter and the stock external remote mounted shifter is a problem. It is too far back and the rear of it mounts to the floor pan. Some have used a shifter mounted over the detent plate, but this would be too far forward, and I don't want a funky truck shifter.

Even if I used the Ford version, it would be easier to modify, but still a lot of cutting and splicing.
SO--- I backyard engineered it.
I took a fleabay $20.00 shipped new take-off TKO 500/600 shifter and mounted it to give me the shifter location of a F body T56. Cut off what I didn't need. Took a rod end out of my spares box and cut out the ball and welded it to the shifter. Then a little angle and plate. Teflon washers and silicone grease on the shifter end. It shifts nicely (on the bench) thru all the gears.

That is amazing. I am working on a Miata build that is using a CTS-V T-56 which also has the remote shifter and you just gave us a great representation of what we need to build for that shifter

I put an LQ9 6.0 and Richmond 6 speed in my 68 vette a few years back. You are really going to love driving it when you get done.

I am watching costs as I will be upgrading all systems, suspension, steering,A/C, ect. The trans was $200.00 with the new mainshaft included - I think he had that much in the shaft alone. Cr---- list and Flea Bay have been working for me.

2010 Camaro TR6060 six speed $200.00
Repair transmission Seals and bearings $65.50
New LS7 flywheel $85.00
Used (super low miles) take off LS7 clutch & pressure plate $175.00
New take off TKO 500/600 shifter $10.00
New pilot bearing $10.50
4 quarts Mobile 1 ATF $40.00
New flywheel and pressureplat bolts $14.00
Still need a clutch master and line + a trans mount - maybe another $150.00

The valve covers are stock. Just cut the coil mounting bosses off and brazed the holes up. I was going to polish them but got lazy and wrinkle painted them. I want to mount the coils on the firewall or somewhere out of the way to give a cleaner look. The Intake is stock as well. Just sand down and use high build primer. I will have to post a better picture.

Nice work on that shifter. May be worth reproducing in small quantities for the swap market. See if you can make a couple bucks for yourself.

I like your shifter idea. I've read threads on here about putting F-body and SSR tail housings on TR6060s but what you did was pretty clever. I was debating buying a Magnum for my 67 but I'd actually prefer the that the shifter be back further like a F-body t56. I've been checking ebay and cl for a TR6060 but haven't seen any yet, you definitely scored a heck of a deal on it.

BTLEGACY, I would like to follow that build. I have a 1960 Austin-Healy
Bugeye Sprite that is next on my swap list. I am thinking about a Ecotec or maybe even your drive-train. I picked up some GTO exhaust manifolds (new unused take offs - crate motor), for $50.00. I haven't found anyone using them on a C3, and don't know if they will work, if not I will save them for another time.

I used the 02 Z06 exhaust manifolds because they cleared the steering, z bar, and fit with the 02 batwing pan in my 68 vette.

Nice. Are you going to use the stock CV joint for the driveshaft?

Gary, I have seen people using the corvette manifolds, these GTO manifolds seem to point rearward - may be a problem.
westtexasbuff, I will probably use the stock tr6060 flanged output with a CV joint on the front of a one piece drive shaft. The fixed IRS differential of the C3 means I don't really need a slip yoke.

F-body longtube headers will also work. Pacesetters in particular.

Q - That might be an option as well. Do your collectors hang down, or tuck up reasonably? I am also making this hard on myself as I am swapping in a Jeep Grand Cherokee power steering box, and it is a little larger than the stock power box.

They tuck way up tight...almost too tight. They are within 1/4 of the floorboard. I actually removed the heatshielding from the floorboard on the passenger side for extra room, but I think you could keep it there.

And that pic I posted on the driver's side looking down at the steering box is a little deceiving...there's more room than that. The pic is taken at an angle.

Q, good pics, looks like those fit well. I will keep them in mind. Working on routing parts of the wiring harness.
