I know you already spent money on the steering shaft joints but have you looked into a jeep steering shaft. They have solid joints a smaller shaft diameter and are a direct swap. Very common mod on V-8 S-10's.

Stock 5.3 truck PS pump & a smaller pulley for better clearance to steering box.

Pulley is a Dorman 300-201

good looking build man! I'm doing the same in my 98 and want it to look bone stock also. It took me like an hour alone to get the computer ran back to the passenger side to sit on the coolant tank. To be nosey, how close is your passenger side coil bracket to the plastic a/c box?

I mounted my trans cooler under the cab in front of the gas tank. I started with a tube fin cooler with a fan & the temps would go over 200 just driving around town. So I installed a Derale trans pan with the cooling tubes & it was a joke, temps actually went higher.

So I bought a plate fin cooler with a fan & it did the trick. Temps stay around 170-180 on a hot day & get to 195 when I run it hard.

Here you can see the huge K&N filter from a Silverado. I cut the tube to shorten up the length & it fits real good.

You can also see where I cut the radiator support to recess the radiator for better clearance.

I am so happy with this swap the truck starts & runs just like it came from the factory. Everything works,AC,cruise control, gauges. I have approx 6,000 miles on it now & is a hoot to drive.

I killed a 2010 Mustang 5.0 that tried to run at me on the hwy at 80 we both kicked it & the ole S10 just walked away from him,not once but severel times. To date I have had it to 131 mph & run 120 for close to 10 minutes & it is just glued to the road !!!

No oil leaks & does not burn a drop of oil between changes & the 4.3 trans is holding up quite well.

So after doing the swap I felt like it needed more brakes.....

I took a stock set of S10 brake rotors & had them turned down to make a set of hubs.

Bought a pair of 13 inch Corvette C4 rotors.

Pic of stock S10 rotor & C4 rotor.

And after a LOT of cutting & grinding on the stock spindle to get the brackets to fit I ended up with a AWESOME set of brakes that stop with little to no effort. This pic was taken with the wrong abutment bracket (Z51) so the caliper was sitting up a little to high. I now have the right brackets & the caliper now sits a little lower.

I have always been a fan of running my motors with 165 thermostat......

I had a 185 stat in my truck & was getting around 100 miles from a full tank to 3/4 tank. The motor temp runs right around 195-200 with the 185 installed.

A couple weeks ago I installed a 165 stat & was only getting 70-74 from full to 3/4 tank. I thought it was a fluke but after severel fillups it was consistently getting about 75 miles out of the first 1/4 tank of fuel.

Last week I reinstalled the 185 stat & my mileage went back to 95-100 miles on the first 1/4 tank of fuel. I have checked it 4 times & its def getting better mpg with the hotter stat.

I average 16 mpg with the 185 stat around town & 20-21 mpg on the hwy.

I talked to a guy the other day with a 99 vette with a 5.7 & he said he gets 30 mpg... I find that hard to believe.

I would love to get better mpg. I guess a lot has to do with the tune so I may get a another pcm & have it tuned for better mpg & see what that gets me but I dont want to lose the power I have now. Any ideas ???
