Oh hey, I also did a quick check of the fbody exh mani on the driver's side. It fit without the heat shield. Probably will have to massage heat shield, but should be able to use it. Won't be able to use the stock O2 sensor hole though. It shoots right into the steering box. Think I will plug it and put a bung facing rear on the pipe below the mani. Good finds today!!

thanks!
Thanks for taking those measurements. My idler is about 6" too. So once I get the longer pitman, I should be much closer to the same results you got. You might also have the "quick ratio" steering arms on the spindle. Pretty cool. Look forward to comparing builds along the way....

I got the new pitman this afternoon and put it in. It worked! I now have clearance at full lock in both directions. I have about 1/8" clearance on the pass side and about 3/16" on the drivers side now. One wildcard is still where the trans mount ends up as I don't have that installed yet. But I think I should be good to go with this set-up. No oil pan mod!!!
David Pozzi's website saves the day once again. I really appreciate all the info he has shared. Thanks to LS PWRD NOVA also for comparing cars and taking measurements.

Here are a couple pics of the new pitman before I put it in. One compares it to the old one, and the other gives an idea of length. This is the Moog arm for a 67 Camaro with Power Steering.

i am having the same problem, my draglink is hitting the oil pan and missing the full turn, same setup 3rd gen power steering box, i have the pitman arm Moog K6582 on there let me know what i can do to get the clearance. For a 1969 camaro i am using an ls1 motor/pan came out of 2000 camaro. Car is running been running it for almost a year and I getting tired of not getting the full turn i think i have the right Pitman arm but not sure about the idler

I have installed a front end rebuild kit part number sfk-p6769 from performanceonline.com which included the idler arm.
i decided to install a 3rd gen gear box A-1 CARDONE 276550 and the pitman arm i installed was MOOG K6582.
I am currently missing 1/4 the steering due to the drag/ center link hitting the corner of the pan when it tries to turn fully.
I installed a 2000 camaro into a 1969 camaro and using the ls1 oil pan the frame mounts i have are the z28 350hp. The mount is a little shorter than the regular sbc frame mount making the engine sitting lower. will that be the cause of the drag link hitting?
thanks

I was able to measure both my pitman arm and idler arm and the pitman arm is about 5inch 7/8" and the idler arm about 5.5 inches to 5.7inches
not sure why my center link is hitting just a tab bit i will picture them soon because i just dont have anyone that could snap a picture while I'm underneath.
would it be possible to shave the centerlink or maybe due to the fact that i have a short frame mounts.
The car(69 camaro) had a straight 6 so i ordered the cheapest first gen frame mounts and they were a little cheaper they were for the 69 z28 350 hp model. Not sure if that would be the case. When i installed the ls1 i had issues with the ls1 camaro alternator hitting the frame so i shaved a little of the alternator and also added some washers on the frame mount to get some height and fit.
Car is drivable but irritating not making full turns into the driveway missing that 1/8 of the turn
thanks again

Hey guys reviving this thread... I’m having the same problem as Gearhead67... does anyone know which pitman arm corrects this?
Do I have to swap the pitman and idler?
67 Camaro / Fbody pan / Stock PS box - Rebuilt to quick ratio / stock steering linkage.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
