Used an S10 cable from the junkyard on my Zephyr. Opened hole in firewall just a tad. Plugged right into the hole and was the perfect length. No modification needed to the cable. Using a truck intake.

I know this is an old thread but what did you do to make the foxbody cable work ? I am having the same problem. Mine is opening 60%. I have seen several say theirs works fine.
