Default 08 5.3 into 75 camaro

im about to get a 5.3 out of a 2008 chevy express van with only 67k! all acc and wiring and pcm, I know it is drive by cable and it is a flex fuel engine. Im going to change the intake to a car intake and oil pan to car pan. do I have to change injectors? and what is ATF and DOD? how do I know if my engine has it and can it be removed by programming? thanks for the info and feedback. heres some pics

Check out my build thread (81 camaro) it can help you with choosing the engine mounts..I think the were car shop mounts...makes it easy breezy

And ATF is auto trans fluid and dod is displacement on demand which you don't want... You will be able to tell once you intake and valley cover and yes a tune can remove it from the computer in tuning, also you can use those injectors because actually they are a more flow rate than their gas counterparts...what you do the engine mod wise will determine injector size but if its a mild build they should be fine as long they don't go above 100% duty cycle which ur tuner will figure out...good luck man an LS is better than a SBC any day!

And as far as performance goes, ill be keeping it stock other than headers and intake, will the injectors and rails fit a car intake?

AFM and DOD are the same thing , Im sure you know what they are now , it deactivates 4 of the cylinders at light load highway cruise speed. This system can be deleted , just need LS3 valley cover , change the 4 AFM type lifters to LS7 style and the cam. If you going for the best mpg and stock is something you can live with leave it alone. The AFM is good for about 2-3 mpg at best but some have experienced problems with it.

Like I said over on the Nasty - I think you have a 2003 5.3L because it is the only one that came with a 1MB PCM (you have blue and green connectors) and a cable drive throttle body...

He says it came from a van, all vans were drive by cable. Its hard to tell by the pictices , cant really see the intake, or engine very good.

Are you sure? I thought all 03 to like 07 express vans had the blue green and drive by cable. I have a friend that just picked up a 2004 express van harness that has blue green connectors and drive by cable. Just a sec. I'll give you the part number.

I was going by the tune I looked at from an 04 - it had drive by wire... the 03 I looked at had drive by cable... It is possible that they had both for some reason - they did some weird stuff with those express vans! They seemed to get the left over parts from the parts bins...

EDIT - I went back and looked at the tunes again - the 04 I was looking at was from a 2500 van and the 03 was from a 1500... so, it appears they used cable drive on the 1500 and drive by wire on the 2500...

GM still used a Cable throttle body in the Express Vans with the 4.8/5.3/6.0L engines until 2005 and the GTO in 2004
http://www.lt1swap.com/cable_conversion.htm

And there has been mention of express vans using drive by cable as late as '09! Dont know how true all that is, but, it is known that express vans used drive by cable long after everything else switched to drive by wire.

Thats what I said all vans were drive by cable. I dont know were OP is ,, but I do believe its 08 5.3 that engine woud be LMF which is Flex fuel but is not AFM. Unlike the Pickups and SUV all the 5.3s were AFM. There were 4 different verisons of 5.3s with AFM in the trucks.

Sorry guys I've been out of town so can't post any other pics. But looks like the dbc issue got figured out. And the guy said the van was flex fuel. Can I leave it alone or do I have to change something ?

True the vans seemed to get the leftovers but doubt that's a 2008 pictured. Maybe a 2007 van got leftover-ed and badged as a 2008?

Service # for the 2008 5.3 van ecm is 12612384, which is an E38. That's not an E38 in the pictures.

Sort of, '08+ vans used a separate ECM for the engine and TCM for the transmission. Lots of changes around 07-08 in the truck/van lines. '08 vans got the E38 that the trucks got the year before. But vans kept the 4L80 for another few years while trucks got the 6Lxx trans.

Not knocking what you're looking to buy but keeping the seller honest.

Yes it should be E38 the ecm is smaller the connectors are smaller and more square like about 3"x 2" one is black the other is grey. Should look like this, the plastic wiring sleeve on the harness is removed in this picture.
