4th gen posi in 3rd gen??
I have a 1992 camaro rs that of course has no posi. however I do happen to have a 10 bolt from a 98 trans am in the garage. My question is, could I just put the posi unit in the 3rd gen rear end? or would the whole thing have to go in (of course I would need 4t gen wheels and some brake parts)

Welcome aboard! Even if you have to scrounge some parts, it'll probably be a lot easier to bolt the 4th-gen rear end into your car than to mess with changing the internals of both rearends. The 4th-gen rear is essentially a bolt-in - if memory serves, it's 1/2" wider per side, but other than that, it drops right in.
Anyway, that's the way I'd go - also, if one of the rears is disc, & the other drums, don't forget about making sure you have the correct proportioning valve as well.
Good luck!

Thanks guys!
Ok, I decided that I will just put the entire rear end in the car. but I do need an axle because it is missing one, do I need to buy an axle from an ls car? or can I use any 4th gen axle. also will I need brakes? the car currently has drum brakes.

93-97 and 98-02. Slight length change
3rd gen axles will not work at all
If using the entire axle, original brake type does not matter. Grab a disk brake prop valve for proper bias. Drum valves send much higher bias to the rear because drums require more pressure than disk setups
