what was the sixty on that one? looks like you put a lot more burnout heat into the tires....did it help?

That was a 1.8 60'. I didn't get either of my 7.50 runs with 1.75 60' on film. The heat helped. I ended up airing the tires back up from 12 psi to 17 and I was cutting better 60'. I ran out of time but wanted to bump the launch rpm up to 5-5500 rpm to see if it would help the 60', which I think it would.

yeah i bet you could leave with more rpm. you might end up taking some air back out though.

For sure, I just need more time at the track to mess with launch rpm/ tire pressure. I want to get the car to 60 foot better. I Might pick up some drag shocks for the next time I go to the track. I need to get the car really working before I worry too much about power adders.

Might try slipping the clutch on the launch...

That's a good suggestion, but when I did that it would dead hook it 60' suffered. Next time I give it a go at the track I'm going to raise launch rpm and if it spins bad I'll slip the clutch a little bit.

Default Nice MC and Gear Question

First off - beautiful car thanks for sharing.

I curious about your gearing; I read that you planned on changing the rear gear ratio from 3.73 to 4.30's. Did the 4.30 gear render first gear nearly useless where at times you feel you need to start out in second or the 1-2 shift time (RPM) is to quick? What about general drive-ability, what are your RPM's at highway speeds?

I have an 85 MS-SS that I'm in the process of building with an LS3\T56 connect & cruise set up. I'm still trying to figure out what gears I'm going to use. The car will be driven often, to work occasionally, on trips to show's, and once and a while down a 1/4 mile strip. I've played with various gear ratio calculators but want to hear from folks with actual "seat" time.

I'm not trying to turn your build post into a long discussion on gearing just wanted your opinion on how your particular set-up works.

Thank you

I ran the 3:73 gearing for years with my f body t56, and it works well except I could never use 6th gear. I never drive my car on the freeway, the closest 70 mph road is an hour away from me.

1st gear does not feel too short, the car still will run 45+ mph in first at WOT. At 60 mph, where I do most of my cruising the rpm's are 1700 in 6th gear. 70 mph would be 2000 rpm. I probably should have gone with 4.10's, because with the 275/40r17 (25.6") tires at 7000 rpm in 3rd gear is 96 mph. My car runs 96+ mph in the 1/8 mile, so I just run 27" hoosiers at the track to correct that.

I love the 4.30's and do no regret switching from the 3.73 if that answers your question. If I put a 4l80e in the car in the future, I probably would put the 3.73 back in though.

Heres a good gearing calculator to mess with:
