Default 87 Foxbody, TeamZ Kmember 60e Clearance Issue

I need help here guys, I bet this is the right place for answers, doing a swap on my 87 foxbody coupe, its a 4.8/4l60e with the new design TeamZ ls swap kmember kit, didn't had trouble installing the engine but for the transmission I was having problems bolting it on, did try reshaping the trans tunnel but ended cutting part of it to be able to bolt it on, will be installing new sheet metal no problem, but now the driveshaft yoke will hit the trans tunnel when spinning, just wanted to make sure if anyone with more experience with this swaps has gone thrue this same issue before I keep cutting more into the tunnel?

How do you know that you got the new design k-member ?? Looks like the motor is up way to high and it looks like the motor is to far forward....Do you have pics of the motor mounts ?? With pics i would be able to tell if there the new ones or not.......What oil pan r you using ?? I think the truck pan will fit but hangs way to low...

Looking at pic your motor mounts are to high, you need to cut and drop them down, on my aje k member my pan is about 1/2 inch from the k member/ rack

Oh man I wouldn't like to modify the mounts, I just have a cheap fluxcore welder.. do you guys think I would be alright if I just make the driveshaft clear??? maybe this will give me more ground clearance for the exhaust, or is there some one out there that can make me this lower mounts?

It seems everyone doing this swap has had issues with motor placement. Get a UPR LSX motor swap k member and be done with it. The motor in those pics is way too far forward and too high. If done correctly, you don't have to touch the tunnel at all. I made the mistake of using a QA1 K member for a 4.6 Ford motor and spent hours re making and extending a set of 4.6 motor mounts to bolt up to an LS1 block without adaptor plates so I could get the motor to sit as low as possible and I ran 3/8's alum. flat stock spacers between the K member and body. Good luck.

I would see about returning that k-member if i was you..even if you have to pay the return shipping......did you check to see if the Dynotech conversion headers or Kooks conversion headers fit and to see if they clear the steering shaft ??? I think that might be another problem ??

I don't want to deal with the shipping, do you thing if I buy the AJE trans cross member for the 60e and mount it while the engine hangs so I can modify or make new mounts it will be all right? I found some one with stick welder who can do them for me..

Which way are you running your motor mounts? When I installed my AJE k member the motor mounts would on bolt to the K member one way. I have the newer style, I bought mine about 2 months ago.

The aje LS motor mounts will only bolt to the motor one way......you might have to oblong some of the holes maybe...if i remember right you only use 3 bolts on each side..

Yeah I am using 3 bolts. Did you have the angled part pointing towards the front or rear? I've seen a ton of people run the mounts with the angle pointing towards the rear but I couldn't get the K member to bolt to it that way. It wasn't even close. So I had to install them with the angle pointing towards the front.

The engine is pretty close to the firewall but there's still plenty of clearance. I was wanting to know how these guys run the mounts with the angle pointing toward the rear???

I would def see what headers you are going to use. I have Cooks 1 7/8ths and a 4l60 with the AJE k memeber and the fit is super tight. Less then a 1/16 in some places. My motor sits a lot lower and further back in my car, just as everybody else is stating.

I think the best think to do is to get the aje trans crossmember for the 60e and make new mounts, that should put the engine where you guys say it should be, here are some pics and if the engine moves further back the oil pan should clear the k-member and the manual rack, as far as headers I won't be using any longtubes, the plans are to turbo the car..

good luck on your build. I'm amazed how much room there is between the oil pan and rack, it looks like it could come down over an inch. I wonder if you kept it in the same location because you dont have a good welder if you just redrill the cross bolts on the mounts a little closer to the engine and then cut off the remaining tab. Then in the back use a lower trans mount to drop the back part.

Thanks man, and yes I see a lot of space there so I just ordered the AJE trans cross member and I'm gonna give it a shot on making the mounts, on what your are saying I quite didn't get it but if I did I don't think it would work cause the tabs on the engine mounts would need a different angle...
