LQ4 into a 1961 Rat Rod Apache supercharge or H/C/I ?
Hi all,
I am very new to the LS world, Im getting tired of building big blocks that get 5 mpg for my builds and seeing the LS get more HP and more MPG...LOL
So its time to jump aboard!
To give you all some background and let you know my goals, I am 41, I try to keep a project car going, I am just finishing a 1965 442 build that was a 468 BBO, I am currently starting the build on my 1961 Apache 10 Rat Rod.
The goal for this truck is 400-500 RWHP while being extremely reliable, ready for the long haul power tour, cruise ins, etc!
First thought is to just do the normal H/C/I swap and with that being said, I assume (Correct me if I am going the wrong way) freshen the bottom end or Stroker, L92 heads, LS3 intake, custom cam!
OR
Freshen the bottom end, good rod bolts, piston swap, L92 heads and go for the used LSA supercharger. (I like this idea) I have seen some threads started about this as I have researched the site quite a bit but I have never seen much more than speculation about doing it, I assume I would need to change all accy's. if so would the LSA accy kit summit sells for 992.00 do the trick? I guess I am looking for someone to let me know what all needs to be changed!
The supercharger is more for the unique look and sound of the truck, It is uncommon to see a supercharged Rat Rod, not unheard of but it does make it a unique build.
I know you guys see toms of guys pop up ask a few questions and vanish, but this is a build that will be completed (Good Lord Willing)
I have a 2002 LQ4, 4L80E, the Truck, and we are ready to start! I need a push in the right direction and advice of what vendors to use!
I assume the Painless wiring LS swap kit would be a must or something similar, I was looking at the aeromotive Phantom kit for fuel supply, and how about programming? My 442 is a 4L80E with the FAST kit and a paddle shifter, thats my experience with any computer controlled hot rods, so this will be a leaning curve!
Thanks for all your help!

Freshen up the shortblock, get some L92 heads touched up as well, and stick the blower on top.
The lsa blower uses corvette accessory placement, just with a crank pulley with a third belt for the blower.
So if you find a killer deal on 'vette accessories, grab it up. All you will need in addition to the 'vette accessories are the lsa crank pulley, lsa water pump, and idler pulley for the blower. The lsa idler pulley bracket mounts to special bosses on the lsa water pump.
There are also kits made to adapt the Fbody accessories to work with the blower. As well as truck accessory drive kits.
A member on here, third-gen, makes them. But I don't think he has completed whatever it takes to become a sponsor on this site, so you have to PM him for pricing and availability.

Thanks for the help, Per your advice I located a fellow in CA that knows and supplies exactly what I need, I will be able to run the truck accys, I think I will opt for L92 heads instead of adapters for the 317's

I think the L92 heads will do you well. Good luck with your build, and keep us posted.
PS. Please leave the truck rust/blue, just put a couple coats of clear over it.

Why not just get a mp112 for the truck? My 00 Silverado has a lq4, tsp 224 cam, 918's, shorty headers and a magnacharger mp112. Made 479 through a 4l80e at 5.5psi. Simple combo if your only wanting lower power numbers.

I had originally thought about picking up a CTS-V supercharger and changing over to the L92 heads, after doing some price shopping I decided that I would come out cheaper picking up a truck blower and keeping the truck heads!

Moving right along.....
I picked up a 2000 6.0 with an almost new GM (not a refurb) 4L80E Trans, The motor is at the machine shop right now, I bought all the parts through Texas speed and a magnuson MP112 Truck supercharger, the cam is a 224/228 600/600 @ 114 LS
I am wondering which Oil Pan I need to run? I was looking at the Hot Rod pan but I cannot find a direct answer if that pan will work in the 1961 Apache? Does anyone know?

If you're talking about the GM performance Muscle Car pan I can tell you it fit my 55 Chevy 210 quite nice. It does hang a little bit lower than the frame though.

Cool project! And welcome. You will also appreciate the reduced weight of the LS platform.
I have an L92 + 6L80 in my '51 Ford pickup. It came with a Heidt's crossmember and IFS and I built my own mounts and trans crossmember. I lowered the engine trans as much as possible to improve center of gravity and to minimize impact (increase) to the transmission tunnel (I still raised that about 1"). I use the 302-2 Holley oil pan. 302-1 would have fit, too. Or F-body (which is very similar)
I ran the stock pan for a bit, but that was below the crossmember. The crossmember is at about 6" and the trans / engine oil pans maybe 1" higher.
stock with a tune and LS3 manifolds, it measured 342 rwhp and 349 rwtq on a supposedly frugal dyno. At 3300 lbs it really scoots and hooks up well (not first gear) with a limited slip and the triangulated 4-link.
I plan, eventually, to do the LSA install, too. I should have installed headers, but wanted the simplicity and no hassle factor of factory manifolds.
