1970 Bug Mid Engine - Assembly Time (Auto-x videos posted)

My theory is if a stock Miata stops decent with a single piston caliper and a 9" rotor, I should be able to lock all 4 tires up at 100 mph no problem. I am sure I will be messing with master cylinder sizes to get a good pedal feel.

Time for another update! I have been slaving away in the garage for the past couple of weeks doing body work. Yes it sucks. The worst part of building a car! My whole garage is white now. But at least the Bug is starting to look good. I should have it all done and painted tonight though.
The body was actually pretty straight. This was the worst panel but all the others took only a little bondo.

It's decently straight. You can see some bad spots though. Not a show car. I am fine with it. 1000x better then it was. I am leaving it white for now. Working on getting some carbon fenders, hood and trunk made. When that happens, it's going black and painted by a pro.

As of right now, there is no plan for a radio. I am leaving an open spot on the fuse block in case I change my mind.
Gauges are from livorsi. They are can bus fed. GPS speedo as well
I had to go green. It's good for the enviorment!

coming along nicely! love how the tach is the center piece of the dash and the green really pops. maybe I missed it somewhere, but is the track width in the front wider than the rear? that last photo of it out in your driveway really looks like it is, maybe just the angle of the camera

Haha funny you noticed that. I have a rear wheel on the front and a front wheel on the rear. The offsets are way different. So yes as of right now the front is wider then the rear haha. After I swap the wheels back over, the rear will be 2" wider then the front overall.

It will be moving and stopping on its own power soon! Probably by the end of the month.
Let the wiring begin! This is my favorite part but there is a lot of planning ahead to make sure nothing gets left out.

So much time and feel not accomplished when its done lol

It really isn't that bad. I think it took more time to draw out diagrams and cut the wire to a rough length. At this point I think I have about 6 hours total in wiring and probably about the same in prep. But it keeps getting closer and closer!
Still need to tidy everything up but everything is starting to look as it should. I have the running lights and head lights left still but almost everything else is attached.

Yes sir. They are from Blue Sea. Not sure what site I got them from. Just searched until I found the cheapest place. I will see if I can find my receipt but it was a while ago when I got them.

I have always thought that the tach should be front and center, with a higher priority for visibility over the speedometer. I do like your dash layout. This thing is coming together very nicely. Cannot wait for results.

David - That is what I was thinking too! Who cares how fast you are going.... My only problem now is that my tach only goes to 7k and I am pretty sure the engine will go to 8k. I guess that is what I will have the nice little LCD screen will be displaying.
