Default 600$ 94 GT 5.3/4L80 swap

Figured a swap thread would be good in here. Mentioned this in another thread but none official.

Car was scored locally for 600$ with no short block. Sold the T5, ECM and other parts. Pretty much got all the money back. Started clearing the wiring. Installed sub frames, AJE K member, picked up dynatech headers. Waiting on the ABS delete block right now. Then I can move forward on cooling system. Need to get fuel system done. Need to mount the shifter and eliminate the 5 speed manual shifter hole. Then wiring and ignition. Built my own trans crossmember. The rear diff clutches feel like they are worn, so need to rebuild that. Drive shaft from my 89 coupe is about 1" too short. LS6 springs, ASA cam, 5C circle D 4400 converter.

Will be getting a 200 shot and then slowly turning it up to 300.

What did you use to clean that engine and how long did it take you? Mine is FILTHY and even after an hour of cleaning with a screwdriver (to knock the rust scale off) and a scotchbrite pad and some engine degreaser/cleaner) it's still pretty bad.

Wire brush and brake clean. A razor blade for the flat surfaces on the heads and water pump location. Plenty of hours is all I can say. Lol

Nice job ballin on a budget. I hope you plan on keeping the hood flames. It's strange but to me that gives it a sleeper look.

I want to paint the hood and nose white and drive I for a while. Eventually paint the entire car. Wife acted like she was in her feelings when I told her there would be no AC. Like I have the time and money to make that BS work? Lol.

Give me a little time and we gonna see. Just wish I had the funds to do everything the way I want right now. But I'll just get it going NA till I get the trans situated with a shift kit to help third gear and some rear suspension.

Here is a little update from yesterday. Only cosmetics but I had to do something. A customer car has my lift occupied so I couldn't get much done this week. But I did get a DA sander and some rustoleum gloss white rattle can to satisfy the urge to eliminate the **** flames and black bumper cover.

Update. Got a lot done and a lot to do. The electrical is not finished but it is getting there. Stock output for the ECM is shitty. But it runs. It is a ASA cam in the 5.3. Not very big but it sounds ok. Was nice to move it under its own power. Need to put the fender and nose all the way on, and head lights. Won't be too much longer and I'll be getting an alignment and better exhaust.

She runs and drives. Had to do more wiring than I wanted to but it is worth it. Tha toe on the front end was in, so made that adjustment. 12v signal to the trans controller was ****. Fixed that and found 3 more forward gears. Has a dead spot in the throttle so I need to figure out if it is fuel pressure being a bit high or if the carb sitting too long needs rebuild. Looks better in ones piece. Wife enjoyed taking a trip around the block and we are putting insurance on the car right now.

Lol, I think I did everything in maybe 5 days of actually working on it. Not too bad.

Here is before with the 12" dynomax mufflers that were welded right on the headers:

And this is after removing those and installing the X pipe and widowmaker black widow mufflers.

Very pleased with the sound when cruising and in the throttle. Was time for a change from my usual 6" bullets I normally run.

Heading to the track Friday. Threw the nitrous plate on. We will see if the stock suspension holds.

Took the turd to the track. 7.9 at 89. 1.8 60 foot. Second gear was lean popping so there is clearly a need for more fuel. Install tach, rebuild carb and wide band, I'll be trying it again. I'm used to a coupe with a 6.0 running 6.8 all motor so this thing is such a pig.

The 94 was on motor, the 80 coupe was on a 150.
