I'm new to this site so hopefully I'm posting this in the proper place. My son is building a resto-mod truck (1953 Chevy body on an S10 frame) and had the engine fit done by a qualified and experienced technician. the motor he is using is a 2004 LS1 from a Pontiac GTO. The first issue (solved) was that the oil pan dumped in the front. that's also where the filter was, and it wouldn't fit. So the technician changed the oil pan to one from a 2005 Tahoe. Then the alternator, which was down low on the front of the engine, interfered with the frame. So he used the factory bracket to move the alternator "up top" and had to change the harmonic balancer and the water pump so that the serpentine belt would align. He also had to change the intake manifold to one from a Chevy Tahoe because the one from the GTO interfered with the alternator. My son is not crazy about the Tahoe intake. So here's my question: what other intakes, stock or aftermarket, could we use that wouldn't interfere with this alternator position?

If you want to change the intake manifold to a car-type (LS6 preferred) check into Holley/Hooker accessory drive brackets. they have what you need and will fit properly.

Your guy should have bought an alternator relocation kit that works with the LS1 intake. I would recommend that as it would be cheaper than purchasing a used LS6 intake.

I realize he has/had an LS1 intake, just that he would gain a bit with the LS6 which is why I said "LS6 preferred" rather than required.

He already has the LS6 intake, the 2004 LS1 had the LS6 intake from the factory.

What you are saying is that we should remove the alternator and the factory mounting bracket that was used and re-install the alternator on a bracket that we buy from Holley? And then that would allow us to replace the 2005 Tahoe intake with the one originally on the motor (2004 GTO)? If that is correct then that's the route we will take. The mechanic only took the route that he did because we were all presed for time and he happened to have a facory bracket in his miscellaneous parts pile.

The Holley Hi Mount bracket will work with a truck style alternator, but place it up high, like in a C5/6 Corvette location. Holley also sells spacers, so this bracket can be used with Corvette, F-body, or truck balancer spacing. Then you can reuse the stock LS6 intake. You obviously will also need to make sure that the Hi mount bracket work with other components in the engine compartment.

holley and fitec both make realy nice intake manifolds , the stock tahoe intake makes great power , better than the ls6 , there are covers that look nice for the tahoe manifold
ls6 manifolds bring big bucks on ebay ,, so selling it will not be an issue

If you need the alt and power steering pump mounted up away from the frame rails search for Slick68 C10. It's a blue C10 step side. He is a member on here. He has the alternator mounted on the right cylinder head and the power steering pump on the left head. I don't have any details on what they are but they look good.
Also does that Tahoe oil pan stick down below the cross member? If it does that would make me very nervous. You hit something with the pan and it could crack your block.

The truck TBSS intake would be my choice.

TBSS is better than the LS6 or the standard truck intake. I sold my TBSS yesterday for $225 with injectors and fuel rails. You can probably sell the LS6 intake for $350 to $400 and get a TBSS for cheap - and make more hp and torque

You should be able to use the truck accecories with the ls1 or 6 manifold by getting an idler pulley relocation bracket. A bunch of companies make them.
