Default 4L60E Pinout Wiring - Howell Stand Alone Harness - Park, Neutral, and Reverse Light

Hello All,

Wiring up my 98 Tj. Running a 4l60E. Working on the Neutral safety switch and need a confirmation on info below. 2004 Silverado donor, single connector safety switch.

I have the pigtail from the GM harness and a schematic.

I want to use the safety switch to run a relay that will enable the starter solenoid and use the 12 V for the reverse lights.

When in park or neutral, I want to be able to start the engine. From the schematic and hi low chart I have, it looks like Park is B/C(772/773) and neutral is A/C (771/773). Reverse is C/P (773/776)

839 and 639 are both listed as ignition 1 voltage, 12 v to both?

1524 wire which is listed as back up lamp supply voltage.

275 is listed as the park neutral position switch signal. Does this provide 12 v for park/neutral?

Can I feed 12 V to 639,839, and 1524. Use C for the Park/neutral relay and P for reverse lights?

Appreciate the help!

You would need to post your schematic to be able to tell. The schematic I have has pin numbers but not circuit numbers. Basically the reverse lights are wired as follows, Pin 11 pink wire is ignition power and pin 10 gray wire goes to the back up lights. The starter relay pins you need are pins 1 and 12, those have continuity in both park and neutral.

Appreciate the reply.

Here is what I am working with.

I don't see the C&D?

Would 275 suffice?

Do I need to feed 639 12 V as well?

Oh damn, my bad. I really probably should get my eyes checked, the C and D are for a clutch pedal switch for a manual, so sorry about that. I am seeing more clearly now though! I edited my post to correct my error so as not to confuse anybody in the future who may see this. So, first off, forget about the circuit numbers, they aren't going to help you much and will confuse people, you need to focus on the pin number, the numbers in the first row which are also molded into the plastic connector, although you may need a magnifying glass to see them, I know I do!

Pin 12 will be the wire coming from the ignition switch, that is hot when you turn the key to the "crank" position. My schematic shows it as pink, but it could be purple like yours shows. Pin 1 the dark green will go to the starter relay.

For the back up lights pin 11 (pink) will be ignition power and pin 10 (gray) will go to the back up lights.

Pin 9 (light green) is for the shift interlock and will only work in the park position, so if you wire the starter relay to it, it wont start in neutral. Not sure why it says park, neutral on your diagram?

Thanks man, I appreciate the reply.

I am guessing when you say ignition, you mean hot in the start/run?

I pinned out the 4l60E harness and got it extended. Went through the jeep harness and found the circuit. There was not a lot of info regarding the jeep existing harness and integration into the LS swap.

What I will be doing is picking up and modifying the original jeep harness that went to the jeep NSS. I found the 12 V feed and the wire to the reverse lights. Ton of digging through schematics, pin outs, connectors, splice locations. Fun times!! Luckily I only have a few more to do. Hopefully, I can help the next guy!
