LS1 Swap
I am new to this site and have a few questions about a ls1 swap in to a 69 camaro. I want to run a manual trans but am wondering what to use. My question for now is how well will a stock six speed hold up to around 500HP? Or would I be better off going with an aftermarket unit?

Sadly the LS1 tranny are not as stout as the LT1 units . However , you should be able to squeak by on that HP rating. Get a good clutch , though. The stock rear axle is another weak area (more than the transmission).

Well I am planning on using my beefed up twelvebolt rear so thats not an issue. But I was also looking into maybe using my fourspeed for the time being and was wondering if it would mount up to the stock crossmember or would I have to modify it for the ls1 Demensions?

I am planning to use conversion mounts from somebody like fatman fab. But am thinking about the stock t56 more and more. Do you know how much it would coast to build one for about 500 horses at the crank?

Tremec 5 speed. I think it's GM 3550 or something like that. 5th is overdrive. Got one in my '56 with 327. Strong 500HP tranny. Top stick, no linkage, multiple locations for the shifter so it will fit anything.
