Default Engine swap

I am concerend with dependablity and gas milage but i hate going slow!!! I have a 89 camaro 5spd with t-tops. Well what engine would drop right in and meet the above specs. (dependable and good gas mileage) Would a ls1 work? and would it bolt up to my tranny open to all suggestions. Please help and if you could please include a est. price for the swap.

I think an LT1 would fit nicely in there although I wonder about that t-5 your running with it. I would suggest getting that t-56 in there. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

The LS1 will not simply drop in an 89 camaro. You would have to get new motor mounts, new trans, and of coarse rewire the whole car. However, it can be done. Try thirdgen.org in their motor swap forum. Lots of info there. It is possible to swap a LS1 into a third gen, but it aint cheap. You would be much better off going with a built SBC or LT1. These would be much cheeper. If you are set on getting an LS1, just go buy the whole car. It would probably be alot cheaper than doing the swap.

Go with the LS1! I have 424 RWHP and still get 24MPG on the highway at 75MPH with 4.10's in 6th gear! I have driven my car everyday for the past 1-1/2 years with absolutely zero reliability issues.

Get rid of your 5 speed. It's junk and will never hold up to the power of an LT1 or LS1.

My conversion was $9K but it could be done for less.
