Default Colorado Canyon LSX swap? How tough?

I was just about ready to build a 6.0L 1500 swap when I remembered the Colorado. I saw some shots of the possible Colorado SS that might come out soon. I love the idea and would love to buy a 04 CCSB and do a LS1 6-speed swap. I have searched for info and havnt found much. I have heard of 6.0L swaps so obviousally it will work. But what has to be done. Does stock corss member work so on. Any links or info would be great. Thanks

We're talking about that a little over in the "Who is gonna be the first" thread. I'm definitely interested too. I'm coming from a Lightning, and think a way lighter Canyon/Colorado would be sick, especially on the track. Or with a bigger TT diesel in there...

GM already has a special project version that was running around Woodward during the Cruise. It was a blue Colorado with a V8. Sounded SWEET!!!

But the swap has been done correct. I am planning to drive the Colorado with the I-5 for a year or so and then do the swap once I am out of school. I think it should be pretty strait forward with 6-speed or maybe auto and possibly a 12 bolt.

We are looking in to doing the swap right now, hopefuly we will have some swap parts by the end of the year. Fitting it in isn't the issue. We are studying what it is going to take to integrate it electronically and retain all the factory things like gauges and ABS.

Sounds great, I wont be doing the swap right away most likely. Would be nice to buy a kit with tranny mount, motor mounts and harness so stock gauges, abs and airbags arnt a problem. This is what I wanted to hear. I can buy a 04 CCSB I-5 and drive it until I am tired of the I-5 then swap in a LS1 and 6-speed. Should be great DD and will fit my street bike or dirt bike when I need it. Also maybe ocasional light towing duties of a 2,500lb LS1 Fox with aluminum trailer. Thanks for the help

I was one of the engineers responsible for building the Woodward Colorado at GM. It is not a really difficult swap, but the electronics are pretty involved.

I am putting a Gen III 427ci LS1 (C5R block) engine with a T56 in my Canyon. It will be completed this summer and I plan to attend Hot Rod Drag Week with it.
