Default Need some help,68 chevelle th350, ls1

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I couldnt find an answer yet, I'm looking to buy a 5.3l ls1 for my 68 chevelle, can this be used with a th350? I want to upgrade to a better trans later but want to keep this as simple as possible for now. BTW I'll be doing a carb conversion to the motor and a hotter cam and heads. The original 350 sbc is a little tired to say the least and I dont want to waste money on a rebuild.
thanks
Hulley

Yes it can https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...ighlight=th350

But why are you doing a carb conversion? It is so cool to have EFI, and the wiring is not really that hard. Plus it costs about the same amount.

if your going to spend money to modify the 5.3 why not do the ls1 motor, as the conversion is exactly the same? the ls1 weighs less and will make 350hp+ with headers and a carb.

G-body, thanks for the links. I'm thinking the carb conversion will keep things as simple as possible, besides these motors respond really well to carb converions.

87ssmonte, I'm kinda new to the idea of a ls1 swap and not as familiar with these engines, I know the 5.3l is considered a lm7, but when you say ls1, are you refferring to the 5.7l from the camaro/firebird? they both are ls1s' right? Or just Ls based engines? the reason for the 5.3l is they are cheap and plentiful! I'll probably swao cams and find some 6.0l head and have a pretty strong motor. Ultimatly I want a Ls2 and a t56, but that will have to wait as the car still needs other work.

The Lxx designation is the RPO code, technically all of these engines are considered GEN III small blocks, but since the 5.7L LS1 came out first everyone refers to the GEN III small blocks as LS1`s. Everytime I tell someone I have a GEN III SBC they look at me like I`m an idiot, but if I say LS1 they know what I am talking about even though I have a LM7 5.3L not an LS1.

LM7 truck 5.3L
LS1 f-body/vette/GTO 5.7L
LS6 vette 5.7L
LS2 vette and more 6.0L
LS7 Z06 vette 505HP super motor
LQ4 truck 6.0L
LQ9 high output truck 6.0L
L33 something tells me its a 5.3L but I don`t remember what it belongs in

I know that there are more RPO codes but these are the only ones I remember off the top of my head.

A lot of people also refer to the GEN III SBC family as LSx motors.
