Cruise control
[QUOTE=Captainab;19012030]
Which one of these wires or PCM wire turns on the "cruise" light when the cruise is engaged?
Your ar correct. The 1 that don't need to be hooked up to work
It's the other wire coming out of pcm. The engage wire. The 1 the don't need to be hooked up to work. It should turn light on

I got my car wired up for cruise now, used oem wiring and plug from eficonnection.
I recently moved my PCM from under the hood to under the dash, went ahead and installed relays in that area too that will allow me to use a dakota digital cruise stalk with the factory gm control module.
But I was wondering, there's a difference between the ends of a stock fbody cruise module and truck module correct? I have a truck module and the end won't clip into my 1998-2002 LS1 Fbody throttle / cruise bracket
I wanted to check first, I may end up sourcing a fbody cruise module instead versus modifying the bracket for the truck module.

Cruise control
Not sure about fbody stuff. I would have to check. But I have 3 dif module cable set ups an all 3 are diff how they attach to bracket. I made a 2003 truck module work. Mite not be sema quality. But I have cruise an it works well.

Hey guys, I am planning a ls swap into a 1997 Dodge Ram and was wondering if y'all think I can use the steering wheel cruise control buttons on the dodge to operate the gm cruise control? I will have a 2002 GMC Sierra as a donor truck so I will have the module and cable from that truck to use. Thanks for any help.

Anyone know if there is a trick to removing the cable assembly off a cruise module?
It looks like it is just clipped in place, I tried pressing in both the top and bottom clips but it's not releasing.
But I didn't want to get to aggressive and break something and wanted to ask first

Mine was pretty tough to get apart. I had to pry both the tabs at the same time; almost needed three hands. There is an o-ring on the end of the cable, that one mine at least, appeared to be dried out and sticking to the cruise module. I was replacing the cable, so I wasn't too concerned. A little lube here seems to go a long way.

I have an ls1 out of an 02 ss camaro that is going in my 87 pickup. Which cruise module should I be looking for? Would a 96-02 blazer control module and cable work? I have the module from the 02 camaro but in reading seems it isn't the right way to go.

I was really wanting a stock Fbody cruise cable to clip into the stock ls1 throttle bracket but these have been discontinued.
Being the resourceful person I am I made my own. I modified a 12554160
throttle cable found on 1996 monte carlos and can still be found new.

I had already made a stock looking throttle cable using one of these and decided to do the same for my cruise cable.
start by cutting the end off a stock cruise box cable.
Then take a drill and hollow out the opening
measure the length you need and cut the throttle cable to that length on the back side of it, leaving the front alone. You are only using the sheath and not the wire...use the wire from the stock cruise cable, cutting it at the front to remove it
Now slide the throttle cable into the cruise end and run your wire into it, since you left the back of the wire alone it should still have the ball crimped on it that will slot into the cruise module connector.
Then I did some measuring and located the clip that attached to the throttle body, I crimped and soldered part of a butt connector (sheath removed) to secure it. It looks factory.

I wired everything but the cruise inhibit and cruise engaged wires.
First time out cruise engaged and I could coast and accel and resume. I was very pleased. I was in 6th doing about 65-70 and it kicked off. So I turned it back on and it kicked off again. I guessed I didn't have enough rpm in 6th and between the bumps and hills it was turning off. On the way home I tried 5th gear and it won't engage at all now.
Checked the fuse and wiring again. Everything seems OK. I had it laying module side up for test drive and thought it was not mounted securely. So I bolted it down aluminum base up and tried again in 3rd and 4th and 5th 40-45mph still no cruise.
I think I'm going to get another junk yard module and retry.

I grabbed another module at u pull it just in case and played with it last night. I found a gm cruise control tester and figured out the clutch switch wasn't working unless I pulled up on the pedal. So I adjusted it and the tester LEDs lit up when i pushed the clutch in, resume, coast but the cruise Still didn't work. I noticed the brake switch was on all the time with the brake on or off. I thought that was weird i didn't have my meter but my test light would light up on both sides of the brake switch before and after the pedal was pressed key on. I thought my switch was bad. But my brake lights weren't on. I thought the module was shorted so I unplugged it .brake switch works. Plug in the other module and key off brake switch doesn't have power on one side until the pedal is pressed. Key on it'll light my test light. On the brake light side with the wire to pin G. Brakes on our off. I have led brake lights which I wouldn't think if there is any voltage on that wire from the cruise module the lights would be on. They weren't on with the key on. My other thought is it's expecting heavy bulbs to open that circuit not LEDs. So I was thinking of putting a regular bulb or resistor in the G wire and retesting.

Yep, LEDs wont work with the cruise. It need to see a ground through the filament in at least one brake light bulb and 12v on every ignition cycle for it to set. Im suprised it ever worked for you. The way I get around it is to wire a relay to the cold side of the brake light switch. Just wire the coil part, you're only using it for a load on the system, then ground the other side of the coil. That should get you going.

I tried only using the control side of the relay that doesn't work. The relays I have are around 70-90ohms they click when I step on the pedal. if I put a bulb in place of the relay and then it works.
I'm thinking about wiring the load side of the relay to ground and it'll open the relay and open the ground path when the brake is pressed. Maybe that's what you ment. I thought it would ground through the control side of the relay

Just a regular oem style relay 5 blade I think it's the 70-90 ohm control side is to much resistance. I tested since newer small blade relays off late model cars with similar resistance.
Bulbs are .2 cold. I am going to put in a load resistor and try that. I think Walmart sells 6ohm.

Update: I spent some time with my truck and the multimeter today and figured out the "cruise engaged" light. Turns out the J terminal coming out of the module supplies a ground when the cruise is set, so all you have to do is wire your light to the J terminal on the ground, and the other side to an ignition on power source. It works PERFECTLY! It works exactly like it should, doesn't come on until you're at the speed that the cruise will set and goes off whenever the cruise is disengaged by either hitting the brake or turning it off. Also comes back on when resume button is pressed, and goes off when the coast button is pressed, but when you let off of it and the cruise engages again, the light comes right back on.

Cruise control not working
Hi
I have read through the thread, with lots of info.
In my -57 Chevy pu I have put a -99 5,7 liter Vortec from a Suburban. Now I am trying to add the cruise control, using the cruise control module that came with the engine. I only have a set/cruise button in the cab. Is it possible to get this to work, or do I need a special cruise control buttons, with resume etc?
