Default Disadvantages of aftermarket harnesses??

What are the disadvantages (if any) to using an aftermarket standalone harness (such as Speartech's) vs. modifying the stock harness to work in standalone operation?? (besides cost) If you beleive there are none please chime in also, Id like to hear all opinions on this suject.

Well heres the problems ive run into. My harness has no proivision for reverse lockout, skip shift, or reverse lights, and also the VSS had the wrong connector on it.

Which Harness did you use?? That's probably also a pretty important piece of info for anyone to list if they have run into problems.

I used a TPIS harness, which is built by howell racing, in all fairness I should point out that theyve done everything they can to help me through any problems ive had.

I don't think there should be any disadvantages. You can have them make your harness with anything you want or don't want on it. The installation looks so much cleaner with the custom harness. I used Speartech and he did a great job. It was just a matter of plugging everything in hooking a few wires up. Yes it is expensive, but what isn't on these conversions? John

Why try to reinvent the wheel. GM put quite a bit of time and money into the stock harness, although you will need to have it re worked.

By re worked I mean VATS bypass, Alternator resistor, diagnostic link install, as well as many other things that are needed. It will be somwe of the best money spent when the harness comes back labeled even for a beginner to hook up.
