It is not neccessary, the pcm will un lock the converter when you are slowing down. The brake switch is there for a fast unlock when you get into the brakes. To hook it up make it so it grounds when the brake pedal is depressed.

It all depends on what type of tranny you are using. On a 200-4R the lockup will help mileage, but won't hurt the tranny if it's not hooked up. I have heard that a 700R4 will overheat if they aren't hooked up. It suposedly has something to do with the fluid not circlating correctly. Maybe one of the tranmissions experts will chime in. I like to use the lockup kit made by B&M. It's speed controlled. It is a little bit more expensive than the other kits, but works better. The vacuum operated kits will cause the converter to unlock everytime you come to a small hill, or just mash the gas pedal a little too quick, even if the car doesn't really need it to.

Don't hook up the brake switch so it grounds!! TCC lockup wire(blue I think) goes to one side of switch and switched 12+ goes to other side. The switch should be one that has voltage when brake is not pressed, and 0V when brake is pressed.

Please reread what fast400 said. It should be 0 volts when the brake pedal is pressed and 12 volts when it is not. In most cases it is set up with a two pole switch in conjunction with the brake lights. One part of the switch is 0 volts when not pressed and 12v when it is pressed. That controlls the brake lights and releases cruise control, the other half of the switch works just the opposite and controls the lock up converter.

Why wouldn't you hook it up? It's silly to have a 4spd but only use the first three

what does the lockup have to do with the overdrive?

im asking because i have a whole lot more things left to do and i just want to drive it. if the lockup can wait, i'll get to it later, if it'll burn up the trans not being hooked up i will do it before i drive it.

i already did a burnout with it in the driveway, so its kinda driveable, im just thinkin i finish the cage and seatbelts gauges etc first.

As said if you are running a 4L60E you will be fine with out the brake mounted switch.
