Default 5.3 lm4 and vette oil pan problem

Ive run into a small snag. Here lies the problem-The dipstick for the 5.3 lm4 goes straight into the oil pan. The vette dipstick goes into the bottom of the block right above the oil pan. The 5.3 has a boss where the hole for the vette dipstick should be. Do I drill this to the proper size and call it done? suggestions?

Anyone? I think the hole is 3/8. At least that what it seems to be.

Im confident in being able to drill a straight hole. ha..just not confident that there may be something I dont know in the path of my drill! Ill throw it on the motor stand and check out the path I will be drilling.

Good. I heart metric. If I cant find a metric bit Ill get the closest thing in standard thats a touch smaller and then hone it out so that the rubber o ring on the dipstick is really snug.
