Default Aftermarket (S&P) harness to stock gauge cluster 98?

I purchased an 84 Vette with a 98 LS1/4L60E and S&P harness.
It was once a running swap but was not running when I got it.

I have searched about putting a stock Z28 or Vette cluster in, and what I have read is 98 fuel sending unit is different than older GMs. However, I am mainly looking for tach and speedo functions. I plan to use aftermarket mechanical oil and water temp gauges so a fuel gauge wouldn't be a big deal. I primarily want to do this to save $ and complexity.

What do I need to make a stock cluster work with an aftermarket harness?
Am I limited to 98 F-body or 97-98 vette clusters to work w the 98 engine?

Also, I took out the 4L60-E and have a T56 to go in. Will the tranny harness work for what I need (reverse, speedo, whatever else)?

Can I just tie up the shift control stuff?

I will need a reprogram anyway the car had a built LS1, the previous owner put a stocker in its place before selling it.

Thanks

If you are going to use a late model dash cluster the easiest way to so the harness would be to find a used t56 98 engine and dash harness. The s&p harness won`t have the wiring for the dash cluster.
You can make an auto harness work my removing the transmission control wiring, but you also have to add some wiring for the reverse lockout and for the clutch pedal position switch.
If you want to use the late model dash cluster you would also have to run wire to power it and the rest of the wires for it as the aftermarket harness probably doesn`t have any of the wires needed to run it save for a tach out, speedo, and temp out. All of the warning light , turnsignal, highbeam indicator etc wiring will not be included.

IIRC the 98`s may still have the old style 0-90ohm fuel sender, the 99+ cars do not.
