Default Fuel system help on chevelle

I was trying to figure out how to do this fuel system the easiest way. I was planning on running an external fuel pump with an adjustable regulator on the engine (6.0 truck engine) then put a return to the tank. Has anyone actually used the stock fuel sender in the tank with an external pump? I cant find any adjustable regulators for the 6.0 liter truck engine either. thanks for the help

If you use the the stock sending unit with no extra baffling in the tank you will get starvation around corners and hard acceleration when under 1/2 full tank. As far as regulators go you don't really need an adjustable regulator setup. Is your fuel rail a return or returnless style?

Does the truck engine you have run a return line? If not then you can use a 05 Vette fuel filter with the regulator built in. Works GREAT for LS2 stuff normally aspirated, 4 BAR or 58psi. Can be mounted close to the tank in the rear.
I like simple. Less weight and less to go wrong.

It has a return on it. I may just weld a sump on the bottom on the fuel tank for the fuel then. or I will try to make a baffle for it.

Why not just use the stock regulator then?

Also, Spectre Premium makes tanks with the pump inside. Try rock auto for them.

Why not use a fuel sending unit with the fuel bucket/baffle already built in? Like one of these. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/716267/3 , http://www.chevelles.com/forums/show...35&postcount=5

I`m actually working on a system like this for my brothers 64 buick special right now. I can`t find a sending unit that is short enough because the tank is only 6.5" deep at the deepest spot so I am going to shorten the sending unit from a mid 90`s cadillac to fit the tank.

Easiest way would be the Spectre tank.

I used an external pump, stock sending unit/pickup, stock tank

I cut a hole in the tank from the top and had a 3" deep license plate recess box (used for putting the plate in a mini truck/lowrider tailgate) with some holes drilled in it to the tank floor around the stock pickup

I used a vette regulator and ran the return to the stock tank vent line which I cut on the inside and ran a piece of rubber hose from the vent tube through the "sump" and put a hose clamp on it so the return line feeds directly back into the sump

during my first drives with the motor I had about 5 gallons in the 20 gallon tank, even at WOT 0 to 100mph a couple times I had no signs of starvation

even before the swap I never let the car get below 1/4 tank (good habit I picked up when I first started driving) especially since some fuel stations don't keep 91-92 octane, but I have yet to have any issues even during hard cornering so it works for me...especially since it only cost about $15 plus the cost of the fuel pump and vette filter
