Also, Spectre Premium makes tanks with the pump inside. Try rock auto for them.
I`m actually working on a system like this for my brothers 64 buick special right now. I can`t find a sending unit that is short enough because the tank is only 6.5" deep at the deepest spot so I am going to shorten the sending unit from a mid 90`s cadillac to fit the tank.

I cut a hole in the tank from the top and had a 3" deep license plate recess box (used for putting the plate in a mini truck/lowrider tailgate) with some holes drilled in it to the tank floor around the stock pickup
I used a vette regulator and ran the return to the stock tank vent line which I cut on the inside and ran a piece of rubber hose from the vent tube through the "sump" and put a hose clamp on it so the return line feeds directly back into the sump
during my first drives with the motor I had about 5 gallons in the 20 gallon tank, even at WOT 0 to 100mph a couple times I had no signs of starvation
even before the swap I never let the car get below 1/4 tank (good habit I picked up when I first started driving) especially since some fuel stations don't keep 91-92 octane, but I have yet to have any issues even during hard cornering so it works for me...especially since it only cost about $15 plus the cost of the fuel pump and vette filter
