That is a cool car! I saw one a couple of years ago with a toyota 3.5L hemi V8 in it. Everyone thought it was a dodge motor but toyota had them in japan in thier limos. it was a clean job. I bet that one doesn't have much rust in it there in socal heh? I got a northstar motor that would go right in it!!

We got a little backed up in the shop today so all I got done was to remove the hood and start to strip the motor. I'll post some pics after I get the motor out and get some more measurments. Looks like it is going to be the 6.0l forged internals and the T76 BB turbo. We will use the TH400 that has the brake in it already. We are undecided as to which rear yet. We have to strip it further and measure more. Stay tuned, it is going to be done. G

Well I got the engine, trans, and rear diff all out yesterday. The body has some rust here and there we will have to fix.

Isn't that so cute!!

I think we will have to cut the tunnel out and enlarge it. I highly doubt a TH400 will fit in there!

Well most of the rust issues are around the front floor area about where the firewall meets the floor. We are going to have to open up the tunnel area anyways sooo.... I figured while we are there we might as well move the center of the firewall back about 3" and with that being new and the tunnel being new it will take care of most of the rusty area.
The car is now gutted and back on the frame table ready for some cutting. I will post some more pics as we start hacking this week. G

Yup! Me and the 8yr old girl pushed it over there. Be surprised how light it is now with no motor, trans, rear diff and axles, seats, carpet, heater and dash! Now we can start planning the frame suspension and ****. G

so here is the dtasun torn down and baring its ugly new england surprises. The rust was worse than expected. It seemed to have crept inbetween the japanese tar sound deadener and the under caoting that someone had applied.

but fear not! the project still lurches forward! If you live in the salt states then you are used to fixing this crap.

this is to be the front suspension. It is a coil over convertion for a 3RD gen F body. I bought the Koni's for another project that I sold off already. $30Ebay spindles and $100 worth of new bearings, seals and rotors. The coil over kit I bought of of another board w?lower control arms for $250. This gives me better brakes (2500lb car mind you), better wheel selection and front steering to clear the oil pan. The entire front end I will be in less than $1000

I will admit, I stared at it for about a 1/2 hr after getting the fenders off, trying to decide if it was worth cutting the whole floor out or trying to save what was there. I guess I am just hard headed!

I thought about the road race option. Of course if I did it that way it would be a twin turbo LS1 w/ a T56 6spd and late 70's IMSA style flares! If you know of anyone interested in the L18 and rear diff stuff let me know. Thanks.
