Default Fuel gauge problems

I have fitted a complete set of Autometer Pro-Comp UltraLite gauges to my LS1 powered 68 El Camino. Everything seems to work correctly except the fuel gauge. I used the 98 Camaro(the donor car ) tank sender which I fitted to the original El Camino tank. The gauge reads full all of the time. Any ideas?

Unplug the sender from the gauge, does it stay at full? I have the same gauges in mine but am using the stock 68 sender. They are like 90-ohm setups. The 98 ls1 sender is like 50-250ohm or something i think. When i unplug mine my gauge reads full. right now ive got it stuck reading empty when plugged in because for some reason its broken lol

I will be doing the same with the factory gauge but have not dropped my tank yet. Looks like you may need to contact Autometer and see if they have a solution.

Was the 98' sender unit purchased new? It could be the sender unit itself, I had a similar problem with my gauge registering full and it was due to the unit being faulty.

The gauge you bought most likely has a range of 0-90 ohms like most all GM vehicles before the early 90s. The sending unit in the tank you are using has a resistance range of 70-270 ohms (I think). You either need a sending unit (just the sending unit, not the entire pump assembly it mounts on) from a 93-97 F body or a different gauge.
