That should lope nicely. I hope your doing a good flowing exhaust with that cam also.

Might be a bit too much cam for yellow Z06 springs..not sure. It's not a lot of lift but the lobes are probably somewhat aggressive.

I thought the stock springs could up to like .600 lift

918's are what is on your cam card, so should work. I know there was a slew of them breaking for a while but supposedly fixed now.

stock gm springs won't take .600 lift very long at all...and if you drop a valve you're screwed.
Maybe look for some lightly used double springs (PRC, AFR, Comp, etc) then you would have plenty of spring for a reliable setup.
that cam should lope a good bit and hit early with torque like stated already

Ok good idea. I hope this cam will help me make enough torque down low, I need it to get 3700 pounds of steel moving

The combo in my 70 shortbed is a 5.3 with a 234/228 .573/.578 113 with Hooker F-body long tubes and a 3600 B and M stall th350, so you could be worse off

I think you'll be fne as long as you have a decent converter and lower rear gears for fun.

How do you like the 3600 stall? I was thinking about getting a 3200, there is on for sale locally that is a good deal. Do you think it would be right for my combo?

Its what I used behind the old 377 and 331 carb'd motors so it was fine there. I haven't got the 5.3 swap on the road yet

As long as your not doing 3 hour+ road trips it would be fun and fine.

Just a few thoughts:

1) Dang, I freakin' LOVE that truck...!!

2) The L92 heads can be milled quite a bit, with pretty good results - do a search for WKMCD's build thread (it has the phrase "Gentleman's cruiser") & contact the person who spec'd his cam/did his tune. He probably won't give you specifics, but he'll give you some good advice/point you in the right direction.

3) I absolutely would not re-use the original pushrods. Even if they're the right length (very doubtful if you mill the heads), they've already been through a lot of fatigue cycles - and you really don't want to have to pull it apart again after something happens at 6000 rpm, do you? (I'd call that "false economy"...)

4) The L92 heads use offset rocker arms on the intake, so those you'll need to get new (they were about $8/ea when I bought mine, so they're not too spendy). It would be ideal if you could get new exhaust rockers as well (they're just the regular LS style, so they should be cheap also), but I understand the budget thing...

5) Personally, I'd go with the lower stall converter - I'd think it would make it a bit easier to drive on a day-to-day basis.

Sweet truck, keep us informed of how it goes!!

Thanks for the help and ideas V8rumble. That is the kind of stuff I am looking for. Do they have "specific" L92 pushrods? I will reuse the stock rockers for the time being, they only have 7k on them. I'll be sure to post some more pics, Im glad you like the truck

Just a little update pic. Got a box full of junkyard parts, a starter, alternator, and power steering pump. Man the starters for these engines are small compared to SBC starters! I like it.

I still don't have the right size puller to get the balancer off, so the motor just sits under plastic. I need to make time to go to harbor freight.

I hope this starter sounds better than the old SBC starter. It was loud and annoying.

Good looking truck!! I am running a ptc super street fighter, 3400-3600 and it does fine.

I reused my stock pushrods when I put the l92s on.
