Default LS1 260Z conversion

I'm just finishing up on the restoration ,customization and LS1 conversion of this 260Z. Have been lurking on the forum for a time . I've noticed several people asking about this conversion and what is involved , So I thought I'd post some pics of the finished car on its way to the upholstery shop.

For the nuts and bolts info. Its a 74 260Z with a 04 GTO LS1 with a T-56, LSD 3.70 rear differential with CV joint axle conversion, coil overs all the way around,
13" rotors all the way around with dual piston calipers up front,Speartech modified harness and ECM . Cant wait for the snow to clear.

More pis of the build are at

Just click on the Datsun for the picture folder.

that looks sweet i love how you made it look so simple and not over the top. less people would there is work done to it untill you pull beside them and they here the ls1 purrin or when you pop the hood at a show or meet.

badass ride, two thumbs up

This is a beautiful car. I would love to do this one day if I can ever find a good base to start with. I guess until then I will stick with the G-Body I have.

Nicely done, I especially like how that cover for the intake manifold seems to tie the fuel rail covers together. What material did you use for it?

The taillights & rear panel are kind of... interesting/different, but overall the car is really well done. The rear valance & exhaust tips are cool too. If you were closer, I'd be bugging you for a ride!

Very nicely done. And a little ironic that you used a GTO motor, for a car that was patterned after the Ferrari GTO.

The engine cover was rolled on an "english wheel " for form and shape and was made from a sheet of 20 guage sheetmetal. Several studs were welded to the panel to attach it to the fuel rail covers . It was then finished with a textured finish to match the rail covers. I just hated all the catalogue covers. Nothing looked right. There are some pics of the cover in bare metal and the entire build on the picasa link below my signature.

Work on the car started in September of 2007. Costs are well over 6 figures.
You are forgetting the one cardinal rule of cars . Never keep all the receipts in one place ( the wife or significant other may find them and demand equal value in furniture or jewelry ) and never add them up ( keeps wife guessing on amount of furniture and jewelry ).

Wow your Z is amazing man truly beautiful. I cant imagine dropping that much coin on a project like this though. It looks better than factory, and is ultra clean, i just dont see you ever recouping even a 1/4 of what you put into her. Ive seen some badass Z cars for well under 25K

Though i must say none are quite as nice as yours

While the cost is not for the faint of heart, its not that difficult to spend that kind of money on the full restoration/modification of a car or engine . Zs dont for the most part are not worth huge sums of money but its really the fun per dollar value that really matters. The LS1 Zs are supposed to run 1/4 mi times in the upper 12 second range with an all stock drivetrain. With the brake , gearing , suspension and tire modifications it should be interesting to see what this one will do.
