engine wiring harness of choice??? list here please...
are the typical $600-$700 harnesses really worth it??? WTF??
i swapped a TPI injection onto my 355 in my 72 pickup and the harness was $375 with a chipped ECU!!!
now i know the ease of install is apparent, (i really liked just hooking up the wires and starting my TPI first try) but what are the alternatives and cost differences? would i be able to mod/hack my stock harness easily enough to consider doing it? and what's involved in re-wiring the stock harness?
for reference i'm swapping a 99 LS1/T56 out of a camaro into my 97 kouki 240SX. i'm on a budget (obviously) and am not afraid to do custom work.
thanks for the help, build progress pics/thread to come. just got the engine last week and tore it down for cam install and pump/gasket replacements...
A lot of people will tell you to save the money and do it yourself, especially if you are on a budget.
I say to decide 1 way over another is all personal.
1. If the harness you have is in good shape (not burned or cut to bad) then no reason not to use it.
2. If you don't mind where the computer is going to end up with the stock harness, there again, no reason not to use it.
3. If you can't afford or don't want to pay for a new harness, you could do the work yourself to your own harness, or send it off to a company to have it modified for your needs.
4. If none of the above apply, then a new harness may be well worth it. To someone making a custom car, who wants to put the computer in a specific location, who doesn't feel like trying to figure it out themselves, or who just plain has the money, and doesn't want to spend the time to do it themselves, a new harness with all the bells and whistles of a custom length, fuel pump relay, fan relays, A/C functions, and whatever else you want might just be worth it. If it wasn't, I wouldn't think so many companies would be out there doing it.

not a newb to working w/ wiring though.
thanks for the replies guys. are there any decent DIY guides? link would be appretiated.
my harness is in very good shape but i don't know where the OEM fan relays were connected? i can re-use the fuel pump and ignition relay in the 240 so that's no prob.
