Your kidding right?
Each coil is directly above it's respective cylinder.

lol no iam not, i know that they are in order on the harness but they can be flipped both ways. so the #1 could be on #4 when it should be the other way.

ok, i have 4 coils on the pass side valve cover with a harness that comes off those. I now have #1 through #4 cyl. If i put the coils on one way the #1 coil is in the front of the engine, if i flip it all over its in the back of the engine. How do you know the coil packs and harness are on the right way and running the right cyl. Can i tell by the plug, wire color something.

i dont know how else to put it, when the coils are plugged into the harness is there even a #1 through 8 coil or can they go anyway

it would only fit one way but the coils spin on the harness so you cant tell what way is what now, so if you spin you coils it will now be backwards, thats what i cant tell

If you put the harness correctly on the bracket, it will fit one way. Look at the wire colors on the plugs and compare it a wiring diagram, if you're not sure

The coils are generic for each side of the motor. 4 run the one side, and the other 4 run the other bank. the harness connector only goes on one way, and coils point down and the plug wires only fit the coil directly above the plug. I don't understand what you are trying to figure out? the coils only go one way, and the harness only goes one way.

I think he is asking how to make sure correct harness wire is connected to the correct coil?

Just make sure you are feeding the harness in from the correct end of the motor and you should be good.

my harness is real soft and lose, so all the coils and teh main plug can spin, witch in return would make teh far left coil the far right coil now so they could be backwards. i see what you guys are saying and i know what way the coils go its more of the harness and the coils going to the right spot. I'll try to look at the wires . If i can get some pictures i'll post em and show you what iam talking about

Here is a picture i JUST took since i have a set of ls1 coils sitting on my computer desk for whatever reason. This is how they were taken off of a stock unmodded 60k 2000 Z28. If you really need me to i can clean the wires up to get a better look but i can distiguish the colors from the pic. You can also see how the harness should look if you have it on right. The coil packs are changeable from passenger to driver side too so that wont matter.

my brackets and coils dont look like yours, it does help me out some to see your harness. Thanks for the help and time.

I'll get pictures of the bracket and coil, my harness comes off the top of teh coils facing the intake and not the sides
