Default 4.8 info

I know the old saying " there's no replacement for displacement" but why doesnt anyone use GM 4.8s?

Are the specs different from the 5.3s and up?
Are parts from 5.3 and 6.0 compatible to the 4.8?

The 4.8 uses a shorter stroke crank, different pin height pistons (but same bore), and longer rods. Block and heads are the same as the 5.3 (non L33).

Lol I am still in the air about my motor being a 4.8 or 5.3 but I am hoping its the 4.8 for no reason other than being different.

Try a search--some people have used the 4.8L. Generally they cost about the same as a 5.3, get about the same gas mileage than the 5.3, and make less power than the 5.3... so most people go for the 5.3.

The only way to tell the difference short of a tear down, is to look into the spark plug hole. Flat top piston = 4.8. Dished top = 5.3.

I was also told there are casting numbers on the crank that will tell. I have to put my GTO oil pan on it this weekend so I will look then.
