The truck alternator requires different wiring just FYI. If you're using a carb setup that is. It requires pins A and B (i think it was) to be supplied with 5v (480ohm resister in line) to get it to charge. Just be sure which alternator you get. I'm unsure on the brackets though.

does the fbody alternator just require a 12 volt signal to work? I've been trying to figure out a way to get my 1985 tpi alternator to work with the ls1 alternator bracket, didn't realize i could run the f-body one easily. got any details?

Nope need a 12v signal from your accesory with a 480 ohm resistor in line to pin A i think it was. When you buy an fbody connector the one red wire that is already run to it you put a 480ohm resister in line with it. This reduces the voltage from 12 to 5 which is what the PCM would put out to tell the alternator to charge. You can get them from radia shack, 4 for a dollar and a 1/2 watt resistor works fine.

F-body alt uses pin B only (pin B to 480 ohm resistor to keyed ign power), truck alts use pins B and C.

so the truck alternator would want pins B and C to have that 480 ohm resistor and keyed on power ran to it?

I have an alternator off a 91 celica on my LS2 motor. Made my own bracket to bolt it off the side of the head.

You can use any alternator that will physically fit. The Denso alternators are a good bit smaller than the delco ones.

If you run an fbody alternator use a warning light on the dash instead of the resistor. Using the light will allow you to see that the alternator is charging and if it ever goes out the light will come on.
